RHD --> LHD temporary conversion

Does anyone know how hard it would be to do a RHD to LHD conversion for a temporary period only. Thing is I might be moving overseas to Paris for a few years and I have a nice 68 RHD beetle in Ireland with my folks.

I don't really want to butcher the dash too much, and wondered what I'd need to change over from RHD to LHD to make it easier to drive in local traffic with a view to reversing it back one day.

Just a thought!

Steve

dont bother, plenty of ppl go from uk to europe with rhd. would be cheaper to buy a goer there as paris is really hard on cars. some even have a 'paris car' to go in the city. insurance doenst cover you on the arc d triumph roundabout either where the traffic on the roundabout gives way to the oncoming traffic and there are no lanemarkings. suicidal scooter pilots everywhere too

You might be able to get away with keeping the dash RHD and simply mountinging the column under the glovebox with a longer wring harness to the indicator switch... everything else should be a bolt-up rather than cut 'n weld

What about the beam/steering box/pedals. Can I just swap over the steering box on the beam?

Cheers

Steve

U will need a RHD pitman arm on the box and cut off the bracket for the steerin damper OR fit a ccomplete LHD beam when you get there. Pedals etc should just bolt up to holes already in floornn[ Edited on 31-8-2005 by VWCOOL ]
