Do I need to change jets?

I have noticed that my acceleration from about 40% throttle onwards doesn’t make that much of a difference, is this a jetting issue or something else?

Thanks.

Could be accelerator pump not working, blocked main jet, vacuum OR mechanical advance not working (eg. vacuum-line fallen off; points plate stuck). Also possible: very retarded timing, severe vacuum leak, etc.

Was it a sudden change in "behaviour"? Or a gradual process.

I got 1/2 mile from home this morning, all systems A-OK. But beetle wouldn't go up first slight hill - very weak! - almost went home to work on carb/whatever. Checked & soon found a small stone under accel. pedal... a one-second fix!

Check the travel of the accelerator to see if your getting full throttle when pushed all the way to the floor make sure the carby open up all the way.

My current setup:
stock everything but
88mm pistons
Holley bugspray (200cfm)
P&P 040s *home job
econo extractors
009 dizzy

I have my timing a little over advanced if anything, 32 deg at around 2700 rpm (all in.)
power really isn't an issue as it still comes up hills etc with no problems at all I just find is strange that there’s not much of a power difference, I will check the vacuum plug now, The accelerator is opening the carb all the way, it was the first thing I checked :) .

Thanks for your replies :thumb

Edit: I just had a fiddle around and noticed that the vacuum plug on the cars looking a bit sad I'll see if I can fix it up.

why I asked about jetting is I pretty much got the carb made a manifold then slapped it on so I have no idea what it has been jetted for thus why I think it could be a jetting issue.

There is a good write-up on the Holley Bug-Sprays in the "Carburetion" section of the book by Bill Fisher: 'How to Hotrod Volkswagen Engines'.
