How do I identify a 2ltr kombi engine from any other capacity?
How do I identify a 2ltr kombi engine from any other capacity?
I'm gonna head off to the wreckers and find myself a 2ltr kombi engine and transmission to bring home with me. Guy on the phone wasn't too sure
about em, but said that he had one, burnt out, but yeah, (makes it more the fun and interesting to fix up, more challenge to kill the heaps of spare
time i got, Lol).
How do I personally ID an engine on a kombi having a 2 Litre capacity, not 1800 or 1600?
And, if any of u have the time, what method would i have to undertake to remove such an engine and transmission?
Thanx all. all help greatly appreciated.:thumb

engine number pre fix. also 1800 t4 can be built out to 2L quite easily. so all you want is a t4 motor 1800 or 2L

there's not much difference in the 1.8 - 2l anyways chris. the 2l has a longer stroke, but the 1.8 also has some major benefits to it. many kombi
people i know swear by the 1.8 over the 2, for reasons i have forgotten, mainly due to its 1 26 am and im very tired... damn shift work.

1800 has bigger valves.
2 litre with 1800 heads is a good combo.

wait, neva mind. found my own answer. :thumb
"The Type 4 engine was enlarged to 1.8 L and 68 DIN hp (50 kW) for the 1974 model year and again to 2.0 L and 70 DIN hp (52 kW) for the 1977 model
year. As with all Transporter engines, the focus in development was not on power, but on low-end torque."
mmm, t 4 low end torque. that year model of when 2 Ltr was released would have been IRS. thanx anyways fellas, u been great help. I got a few prices,
and found an engine and transmission at a local wreckers. is cheap for the lot, but its been burnt out. Giving me a great opportunity to get a book i
found and to do a rebuild/recondition. Won't bother about doing the transmission, i will get a pro to do that. engine would be fun. i got plenty of
spare time, uni doesn't start till late March.
Found a donor car too. All good prices, got the money. Just gotta check the quality of the donor's chassis.

If it's anything like a beetle motor, it's only a few bolts holding it in!
