diy disc brakes (a dumb idea?)

Hi List,
I have this spare set of drums for my 58 bus, and was wondering if anyone had ever contemplated turning down the drum to remove (most of) the braking surface. This would give you a platform to bolt a disc brake disc to.

The outer face of the drum is still pretty thick, and most of the strengthening ribs could remain intact.

This is basically what the csp brake sets are, but instead of solid 1/2 inch aluminum, its about 1/4 inch of steal. Of course then you gotta mount the caliper

any thoughts? a dumb idea? Any other ideas on utilising the hub?

Might work but finding a standard disk rotor to attach to the inside of the face of the drum might be difficult. Also getting an engineer to sign off on it might prove a hurdle
