Rust-o-ration?
Hi List,
What do you's reckon about painting a bus to look like rust.
I am contemplating painting my bus in ferrous rich paint and rusting it with an activator.
any thoughts?

the clear coat will just fall off..
if u paint that ferrous paint over a good solid primer, or good old paint, you have the rust l;ook w/o actually rusting metal - go for it man!

kornkobb,
that was the plan, as the bus is pretty rust free (but ugly as hell) i don't want to add rust to the bus, but put a layer of epoxy primer between the
rust and the body.
So this way i can keep all the dents cause they just add character. wouldn't be much point in doing it if the bus was straight as a die.
The company that makes the rust paint (3 part) mentions that you can clear coat over it, but i'll probably use one of their patina products go give
it that really old left in a paddock for 30 years look.
I just have to try and convince them to export to australia...

the paint i want to get already has the iron in it, but unlike the local varients, this stuff sets hard enough to polish. I just contacted alpha
chemicals (australia) to get hold of some of the ingredients needed to make a platina solution to recreate the crustyness on the metal(paint) surface.
cuprous acetate, copper carbonate etc..
should be fun, and cheaper than getting the body fixed

Can also get clear coat coatings, like rustbullet and POR-15 I've heard..(they aren't clear, but you know what I mean)
