kombi ball joint boots

Hey all,

My 76 Bay needs new ball joint boots.
The joints seem to be still in good nick.
Will type 3 boots fit or do I need type 2 ones?
Cheers!

G'day,
I'm in Darwin over Christmas and New year and tried the 2 VW sources in town and both said they could not get new boots only anymore, but new ball joints available at about $60 ea, cheaper to get and old wrecked Bay with good boots and swap them over.
Cheers, Ian.

Thanks fellas,
I have some new ball joint boots in 2 sizes but I don't know what type they are for. One is 60mm OD and the other is about 48mm OD.
Also I didn't realise that I needed to press out the joints to change the boots.
I am due for rego - will the mechanic knock me back for split boots?
Cheers!

G'day type3lover,

You don't have to press out the top joints to change boots, but you do have to get the big camber/caster tapered thing off which can be a bit of a pain, but persevere and you'll get it off.
Good to hear Mick has new ones, thanks.

Cheers, Ian.

OK, thanks guys.
I got the torsion arms out and the ball joints were totally stuffed!
Have had new ones pressed in and will be putting it all back together this weekend if the rain holds off.
Thanks Volksfolks for your offer but it was more practical to find a solution locally.
Looking for some info on the reassembly process now...
Cheers!
