oil flush additive

Is it worth it? Or should I just pour 300ml of metho (or *eerk* turps) into the sump and drive a couple km's on a warmed engine prior to the oil change? :ninja:

whats the metho or additive for ???????drive it- dump the oil ,put new oil in -drive it dump the oil ,put new oil in --perfect ...dont put anything other than oil in the sump..2.5 lt of oil is cheap and the best flush just be sure its fully up to running temp before dumping the oil:beer:beer:beer

the meth/turps is to help disolve any chunky bits of crap so it can drain out with the hot oil..

so, no need for oil flush then? Just drain it after a long drive?

ps . dont forget to remove the strainer and clean it as well,if its gunky replace it

I use an oil additive once a year to get rid of varnish/sludge etc. Most are the same but DO NOT DRIVE with the additive in,idle the engine as the destructions say.If you want to see how good it works, try it with fresh oil in the system and watch the colour when it comes out....As mentioned above, clean the strainer as well;)

Dont flush it or you will wash all the sludge out of the engine and the tollerence will be increased and probally cause your engine to FAIL

Your better off doing several engine oil changes ( lower milage say every 500 or 1000 Klms ) this will clean any gunk out of teh engine also wash the engine oil strainer each time you do the oil change

then keep the oil change regular

I disagree.

If it is the sludge holding your engine together then you dont want to do a long drive or it will shit itself.

You used to be able to buy a high detergent flushing oil, I havnt looked for it lately. It would clean out a glazed up slug. It was said before, change the oil every 5 km until you have the cleanest oil and flush this stuff through..... amazing.

If you have a newish engine, keep up regular changes, change it hot, keep the air filter clean

kkk

I've only just reached about 4000mi or so, so i'm being careful as it is, although, my engine has been running a little hot lately, so the oil will break down quicker.. But I think I'll just do another oil change in another 1000mi or so after this one to make sure it's clean. I'm usually very good with my oil changing intevals :thumb

Dave is right on the money. Dont flush em. At worst you will dislodge all the sludge and bits that have settled in the oil cooler and you dont want these going thru your engine. The oil cooler is where most of the gunk will settle. As someone else has said, change the oil and run it for a few 100 k's and then change it again. Cheap detergent oil from Kmart would be fine for the flush change.

If you are really worried about the gunk then pull the oil cooler and have it cleaned out.

Well, I just did my oil change and there wasn't that much thick gunk sitting on the sump plate. So that's a good sign! I'll just keep up the regular oil changes, don't think I'll need to do an interim change anymore... geez I love having compression and no blow-by! The oil lasts so much longer!
