82 air cooled FI running very rich
my 82 air cooled fuel injected kombi (vanagon) is running extremely rich ( this happened suddenly).have run the vehicle on diagnostic test equipment
and injector pulse width (at fast idle) is 5.6-5.8 milliseconds and the hertz rate is 20.I have not had much experience with VW and as far as Im aware
only the temp sensor and the airflow meter are the inputs the computer uses to adjust fuel amount (please correct me if wrong).
I do not have the specs of factory diagnostic tests for testing the air flow meter,I have checked the temp sensor and it seems fine.
does anyone have or can tell me how to test the air flow sensor
Regards
Geoff

I have the "Official Factory Repair Manual"
I can scan the Fuel injection section and email it to you next week if you like??

Im getting the bus towed home today (it was in a workshop I was partners in but due to poor cash flow I have had to move on and cant let it sit
there,I now work for the Toyota dealership).......anyway the update is the old gir now doent want to start, I have confirmed compression is ok,and
fuel pump now runs anytime the ignition is on pointing towards trouble with the dual relay, spar output from the coil also appears weak so its all
kinda confusing at the moment

Thanks heaps for the tech info supplied
Finally got around to some testing.
I have no injection pulse and have voltage (checked with test light only) on both terminals of the injector connector.
Im reasonably confident that the ECU is at fault, just wondering if Ive overlooked anything
Regards
Geoff
(ps....seems like I will be needing a good ECU for this, any known of for sale would be great)

change the points and check if there is a voltage drop at the dissy as a worn starter can cause a power rob as the points activate the injector
pulse...u can by pass the double relay ...rare to change a ecu in a aircooled t3...but you may be on the right track ...also a shot of fire
extingisher on the ecu to help freeeze back any faulty solder joints.....check air flow meter flap to be sure its not twisteed and jammed open..hope
some of these tips help you find the prob cheers steve
