Ive seen them as cheap as 3 grand and up to 25 grand depending on the model, but the later models are the go. I looked into getting one a few years back but didn't commit cause if i buy a porsche it has to have a flat 6 not and inline 4. Other than that they are a good all round sports car. The brakes and suspension can be takin out and put in a bug, that s what i have done to my bug. Also ring porschapart in melbourne as they are always selling them for 944 racing series, hope this helps, cheers Damien.

Yep I agree with 66Deluxe, the prices are all over the place. But I also recon they are a future classic and grabbing one now is a great plan. Way better looking than a 924. :tu:

They're awesome handling cars. 48/52 weight split 50/50 under brakes. Front engine, rear gearbox. The 924s were a 2L K-Jet Audi motor the 944s were a 2L Porsche motor. Great fun to push to the limit, when they get out of shape they just drift off line - both ends go at once, back off the throttle and they snap back into line. I've had 2 924s but the 944s are much better cars.

5 speed box, 50 km/h in each gear! Genuine 250 km/h top speed!

Someone tries to pass you on the freeway, you reach for 3rd, if they're still with you at 150 look accross, smile and grab a handful of 4th gear, I never needed 5th, most cars don't do more than 160 - 180 tops!

At 220 they just settle down as the aerodynamics kick in, and handle better than a commodore at 60.

A 924/944 of any given year will out handle the 911 of the same year. (But the 911 will out power the 924/944).

There were even faster turbo ones too!

Hey Andy

The picture you have posted is a CS and would cost up to the $150,000 mark. 57 right hand versions were made and it is very rare to find one for sale.There is one CS in Perth but only comes out on show and shine days. The CS was the first street racer with no luxury items, air con ,radioetc etc. Got a brochure of it somewhere, but where......mmm

Another drama you have to look out for in the 924 - 944 range are the electrics. If its got electrial problems dont touch it unless you want to re-wire the whole car.

Hey Andy my bro used to have one (not the bro in Tassie at the moment though). Make sure it's a 944, not a 924. I think around 1985 they shifted to a slightly larger motor too (maybe up from 2.5 to 2.7). They go great, handle brilliantly, and the ergo's are much better than a 911. The steering is very, very heavy at slow speeds, but weights up nicely as you get moving. Depending on the year, I've seen them go from $8k to $25k - so this one is cheap, but may be a 924 at that price.

My mate has a white 944 and it's sweet as. V8, only prob is it's auto... Why anyone would make a sports car in auto is just criminal if you ask me.
He payed like 28g for his with 88thou on the clock, thing was in excellent condition. Until he got hold of it. Not it sits in the front yard while he takes the company car to work, oh and the touch park against the concret pillion didn't help either. [sigh]
Anyway when something goes wrong on this thing, he pays BIG TIME for it. His account gets smacked around like an old maid everytime he takes it to get repairs or a service. He doesn't skimp on the service centre because he wants quality work but he pays through the teeth for it.

I'd stay well away from the 924. DubCrazy is right, nasty little things.
Better to stick with the VW's mate. Easier and cheaper to deal with.

924 = :td: give it a miss unless it's a GT Turbo model - which I doubt.
