After-market shifters
hey all, looking at a new engine and gearbox, getting some details sorted before i start sinking the real money in... for a 1916 with a 1600 'box,
will a stock shifter do the trick, with new bushings and all that, or will i need something more heavy duty? any suggestions? i dont like the T
bars, i'd prefer a roundish end, mabye one of those trigger types?

Hi
The best bet is a Type 3 shifter, they fit staright into early bugs and with a little bit of work into later bugs, you can also add a quick shift to
shorten the through.
Tee bars are for automatics.

theres nothing wrong with the stock shifter setup and its probably more heavy duty than some of the cheaper aftermarket ones out there. Do the bushes
and it should shift nicely with minimal slop.

hey! that'd really "shift" the grime from your toilet bowl! HAHAHA...oh gee im sorry for that one!
anyways, im not a fan of the tbars, but thinking of a hurst-looker or mabye a real one if theyre not rare, as i said no idea just starting some

ive got one of them. they arent bad but have nothing on the stock set up with a quick shift providing the bushes are in good condition

I've had a stocker Type 3 for years... it's more important to get a really nice, low-mile no-slop nose on your gearbox, and a new bush in the pan's
tunnel
BUT i will be fitting a short shifter conversion real soon

I have a dragfast....really close and notchy change, although can stuff syncro's as the change is so quick. It will crunch in the third to second
change unless you slow the shift down a bit, or double clutch/shuffle the change.

i have a scat t-bar and its awesome...i know u said u dont like the t-bars, but the shifter is awesome, with the reverse lock out and the shorter
throw. i bought an eight ball from a billiards shop and just drilled and tapped the end and stuck it onto the shifter to remove the t-bar....looks
awesome..

The T handle on my Scat dragfast shifter just screws off so you could put any of those after market universal fit knobs on it.

I installed a trigger shifter type in my type 3 and find it to of made the shifting tighter and more prcise, certainly worth the money in my opinion
