Email from Banks

The email address I used for AVD member registration here was used to send me 2 emails recently from "Westpac" and "National Australia" banks that urged me to update my profile online by accessing to the URL link given in the emails.

I don't use the email address any other place and I do not have accounts with Westpac or National. (lol)

So, did anyone get the same emails???

NEVER OPEN ANY EMAIL FROM ANY BANK EVER.

Banks do not email their clients for that information. They already have it and if there are any problems they will ask you to fix it inside their bank office.

These are scams. By opening the email you are vulnerable to all sorts of worms. trojan horses and other nasties.

Repeat after me three times

I WILL NEVER OPEN ANY EMAIL FROM ANY BANK EVER.

I was getting about 40 of those per DAY last week and the week before... First week was saying it was from National, second week saying Wespac..
I blocked and bounced them, which seemed to make them try even harder... Bloody idiots...

A while ago I was watching in a TV program about internet email spam. The man being interviewed said that we should declare open season on spammers and that we should be allowed to "kick their doors down and slap them around."

It's all a numbers game. There are always people who will open those emails and then give them the information that they ask for. Send out millions of such emails and get access to one bank account in 10,000 and you can steal big money.
