why?
Can anyone tell me if this is normal.
I bought a 74 1300 beetle today that has a ball joint front beam and swing axle gearbox.
engine is a twinport 1300 and it has 4 wheel 4 stud drum brakes.
the chassis number and the engine number match upto the registration papers as a 74.
Is this a normal combination?
and can i fit the drums from a balljoint front end onto a link king pin front end?

It is a 'Standard' model Beetle. We had a 1970 'Standard' and it was exactly like that combination.
Had no armrests inside the doortrims either.

The 1300 twin port is a ripper as well
small valve heads and usually goes well
Good cars - especially if kept as is.
Turns into a pain if you then go and convert it into a 1976 model. (1600, discs, IRS, etc)

Yep. That's the way they are. I recently bought a 1974 "poverty model" with painted bumpers and minimal trim which has as standard a single port
1300 and the mechanicals that yours has.
I have just finished transfering the Herbie stripes and numbers to it from my Camira. I intend to make it the basis for a long wheelbase buggy. I
bought it registered to reduce the bureaucratic folderol associated with getting an unregistered buggy registered. Because it will be registered when
it becomes a buggy I will only need to get the new body inspected as it will be being "re-bodied."
Keep yours as is and it will give you years of good service.
