Acessories switch

Hey guyz,
Feels like i have an acessories switch with my ignition barrrel (???) but i cant seem to find a fuse which will show a difference with it turned on. Im wanting to hook my head unit upto it... Anyone know where i might find the output if indeed it does have an acc on switch. Its a 76 kombi

it will have an accessories position... this is the position when your dash lights (gen/alt warning light and oil pressure warning light) come on when the engine is not running.
i think there is only one or two fuses which are powered in the accessories position.

hmmm, In most modern cars, there is a acc on position before this. When those lights on ur dash come on your coil is charged and thus wasting more power and like me if you have an accufire or like ignition then thats going to burn out. It feels to me like there is a position before the position your thinking about (where coil is charged) but im not sure and cant see anything on the wiring diagram besides a warning buzzer for when ign is on and door opens but my bus doesnt have one, well not at the moment anyway.

Thanx for the reply, any one know if there is an acc on position for ign on position? Cheers

There is no accessories position on the key. You have to either have your headunit go on and off with ignition, or have it on permanently, and you have to turn the head unit on and off.

Problems arising are that you cannot listen to the radio without the ign on. Bad for drive-in theaters or camping.

If you headunit still draws minimal power if powered up on standby mode, you can end up with a flat battery after a few weeks.

So your choices are to hook the power wire up to permenant power, and the standby power wire to either permanent or ignition power.

Ok, thanx for all the replies! Now that i know there isnt an acc on position i am going to install a flick switch which will run the head unit acc on wire to either the ign on fuse in the fuse box or constant 12v power regardless of ign position. This means for around town etc i can just use the ign as an on off source but if i wana listen to radio without car running i will just flick the switch :-)

Down to jaycar to find a suitable switch...

Cheers guyz, great help as usual :-) :beer

just use a test light and find a permanent on fuse in the fuse box and use a piggyback connector and plug them on together ,thats what i did in my caravelle and all i do is push the face release button and it turns off :) either thator put a normal toggle switch in your main power line to your unit not the backup power and turn on and off as needed:thumb

i used the old buzzer terminal in my beetle
dunno if kombis have it or not but beetles from 71 on have a terminal on the ignition swtich that is for the buzzer that went off if u got out of ur car with the key still in the ignition
if u hook ur stereo up to that it will only work if your key is in the ignition but doesnt have to be turned on
its basically the same as an accesories postion
im pretty sure the terminal is marked "S"
