I don't like the NB shape!!
I went to check out the NB shape today and even though I liked the look of it in a picture I didn't like it one bit in person. The guards are rounded
and then cut off flat! And the back look different to.
What does everyone think? Now I am toying with the idea of eventually maybe buying a 2005 1.8 turbo model second hand, or if there is left over stock
at a dealership?!

I don't mind it!
Jeez! It's now 12 years since it was first displayed as the "Concept 1" at the Detroit (I think) motor show...!

I saw the new 2006 shape on the road the other day. Although I don't like the hard edges (it was 'round for a reason'), it affected that yellow
color they have less than say silver.
However, I really don't like the 06's engine choices - the pokey 1.6 and the even pokier old 1.9 PDI. The old PDI hs relatively good fuel economy
and excellent torque making city driving easier, but at everything else, it's a dozy drive. The 1.6 has neither good fuel economy for its size, nor
is performance adequate. They've kept the 2.slow in the Cabriolet, so it should have been possible to keep this engine, or they could have gone to
the inline 5 cylinder powering all US NB's (with the exception of 2500 PDIs annually), except that the 2.5 chews through fuel like a six cylinder
car.
The new 2.0 FSI would have been a better choice all round - better fuel economy than the 1.6, and as much power and torque as the old 1.8t. Win-Win.

VW freshened up the NB by changing the guards, rear tail lights, the corner driving lights became slits, radiator grill changes, a new "diffusion"
mesh area at the back, and the fuel lid changed from square to round. There were minor interior tweaks as well, such as different graphics on the
speedo (it looks more 1930's aircraft now), chrome inserts in the air vents, etc.
The NB turns 10 in two years time, which is an extraordinary amount of time with no real model changes.

That pic of the silver new beetles guard is what I didn't really like. And the back looks like the front! It may grow on me I don't know, and I am
disappointed that they changed the engines.
Does anyone know if I can get old 05' stock still, or if some dealerships have them still in stock? Austral Motors, Brisbane are still advertising
the previous models...

Should still be able to get the runout model, not sure about the turbo version because I heard that they sold like hotcakes once the new engine line
up was decided.
Jury is still our for me on the "new" new beetle.
I can now say that I drive a "classic"

If you're standing still and the NB gets smaller and smaller, it's going away from you. If it gets larger and larger in your vision and then you
hear loud beeping noises, its coming towards you and you're probably in it's way...

I am not sure about the new shape either. I do know that Highway VW in Springwood have a silver cabrio in stock in the old shape. I think it is a
2004 plate like ours so would probably be doing deals on it.

Yeah, the V5 is available in the New Beetle in NZ but not here.. whats the deal there.. (not literally, I know the answer). As is the 4Motion
available in NB's in NZ.
Why not the 2.0TDI? For too long Aussies have been denied access to the 'small car diesel' market. It wouldn't be hard, and only now are they
starting to see how viable it could be. Eg. Peugot, Golfs, etc. For an engine with 300+nM of torque, the TDI would propell a NB quite nicely thanks..
Hell, it is even on a Golf chassis?!?!

I've always used the US spellings as I often used pre-release software that did not have Australian dictionaries. I'm consistent about it as well,
so it should be fine.
My masters are doing well, and Meebles is very fond of me right now for some reason. Not fond enough to come within patting distance, but always in
the same room.

i was luckey enough to be involved in the painting of all the body kits on the new VW Range for the Melbourne motor show, so i had a bit of a sneak
peek and i think VW have done some good things,
the NB change i quite liked
the jetta looks awesome, and replaces the Bora - which i personally didnt like (the Body kit we did on one made it looks somwhat like an audi in the
front)
they also have in store a Caddy weekender, campervan version of the caddy

Was in Adelaide for the Clipsal-so had to visit the VW Dealer-plenty of new ones on show and I loved them. The front and rear mods keep the car up to
date with the rest, but not enough changes to spoil the overall look.Still can't believe the cruise control and CD controls are not yet on the
steering wheel like almost everything else on earth.No-services do not cost that much for NB's.My Turbo has had 3 services, with me supplying the oil
each time and a Golf for a loan car,the dearest was just under $400.
