How long does beer take to chill?
I forgot to load the fridge with jesus juice .. so stuck a can and a bottle in the freezer. If I pack the bottle with the meat will it cool quicker,
or do I need air arount it. Bottom, middle or top is best?
Any ideas on how long it's gonna take to cool off.
Which is gonna chill first? Right now I've gone can/top/meat and bottle/middle/air.
Maybe I need more permatations to be sure.
Any advice welcome - I'm partched.

I would say that to have air circulating around it would be more efficient. It doesn't take long to cool the beer to being too cold. Be careful. If
the beer freezes the CO2 comes out of solution and the beer will be flat even if it is warm enough to be liquid when opened. The same will happen if
the beer is cooled enough to sort of freeze into flakes and a sludge when the pressure is released upon opening.
A good trick that truck drivers use to cool the beer when driving on a hot day is to dip the can into petrol and hold it out the window. The super
evaporation really cools the beer and after a few times it's nice and cold. Be careful not to get petrol on top of the can or the beer will taste of
petrol. YUK!!!
How's this for something weird. It was discovered by a Kenyan primary school kid whose teacher got him to do the experiment, after he asked if a
glass of air temperature water or a glass of boiling water would freeze first in a freezer. The boiling water froze first. I think that it has to do
with the rate of cooling as the boiling water cools by more degrees per minute from the start and it keeps the rate up to the end. It appears that the
physics books had to be rewritten as a result of what he discovered.

I know the dudes on Myth Busters did an experiment to see how to chill a 6 pack the quickest - unfortunately I can't remember the results as my beers
were already cold and had a few too many during the show.
I know it takes quite a while in the freezer.....I know for wine it is fastest in chilled water with salt (to reduce freezing point) which is
circulated around the bottle - not sure if the same works for beer? :beer

A bottle of beer in the freezer will cool faster with something frozen resting against it.
However, a solid frozen object will have less surface contact than a flexible one.
I recommend a bag of frozen peas/beans as it will form-fit the contours of the bottle, providing maximum surface contact, thus better temperature
exchange.
Also, if you've got an older fridge, grind the bottle into the bottom corner, into the ice encrustations.
Wet your drinking vessel, and put that in the freezer too, as a cold glass will compensate a little for a not so cold beverage.
If you've got a frost free, make sure that the underside of the bottle/can is getting maximum contact with the coolant surface (ie, bottom
shelf).
If you're desperate, dump any ice cubes you have around all the gaps(you can put them back in the holder afterwards)
and don't leave the forgotten one in overnight. It will probably burst open and be too flat to enjoy upon thawing.

The beer will cool quicker if against something already freezing and hard like a bag of peas. The more contact you can have with a denser object that
is colder, the quicker it will cool. Air is not very dense and does not cool very quick. This is why dense objects like steel and granite/ concrete
feel cooler longer than wood or plastic. They are denser and suck the heat out of you for longer.

P.s. the can will cool quicker than the bottle. It has a thinner wall, a smaller liquid volume and aluminium is a better conductor of temperature than
glass.

fire extinguisher will have a six pack chilled in less than three minutes.
but the icy salt water is best. the salt reduces the freezing temperature of the water by about 4 degrees, and since the water totally envelopes the
bottle at such a temperature (rather than chilled air and a bag-o-peas) it does chill faster

You Should be shot for letting the cold stock get so low
Fire extinguisher is the fastest or lowreing them into a glycol tank set below zero (ye we all have these at our disposal)

thanks fellas ... I gave it hour and a bit ... drank both, but still not convinced, gonna go a pair of six packs to night to make damn sure. Like the
