WIDE wheels on a 64 1200
Hey all, looking at getting some 7", possibly 8" wide rims on my 1200, however upon looking at the rear setup on the car, i dont think it would
accept it, it may accept 7" if the wheels are spaced 50/50 in the middle, but part from that, it dont look doable.
has anyone done, or can assure me as to yes or no it will work?

Hey dude hows it goin,
I hafta say there some big ass rims your lookin at there,i mean i just looked up a tyre calculator and ran a few numbers,assuming xxx/50/15.These
are the tyre sizes and recommended rim width range.
195/50/15 5.5--7
225/50/15 6--7.5
235/50/15 6.5--8
245/50/15 7--8.5
265/50/15 7.5--9
285/50/15 8--9.5

On my bug I have 195/65/14 on the back and 195/60/14 on the front and they look big enough, any bigger and it would look overboard

do u still have the 1200 engine?
i wouldnt personally go bigger than 185's on the rear. 195's at the very most.
why not some 5.5 inch rims?

These rims are cheap, and generally i cant find 5.5" rims for the price i can get these at.
i was thinking running small rubbers, wide wheels
the steering is a lil overkill on the oversteer.
im used to big cars, so having wider on the rear would balance it out and allow the rear to be slower round the corners.
i cant in my mind corporate tyre size with wheels width, so 195/ 60/ 5 means nothing but a tyre size.
i basically need to know if a 7" or 8" wide rim will fit.
TY for the info tho.
i do realise tyre rub on the walls from the rim width is an issue, but knwoing the rim can fit i can then get slightly narrower tyres to fit.

With all due repect, PFFT! :kiss I have 7" rims on the rear of my 55 bug with a 40HP engine and it all fits fine. The same rims also fit on my 64
bug. 205 tyres? I'm running 225/60/15's! And there's no rubbing!
I may be selling these soon with excellent tyres if you're interested..
