This has my vote. If you look at a VR model one you will find it will be a very capable vehicle. The 253 will be too heavy, but a great motor no the
less.
Cheers

I know a guy who did the Celica converison mentioned above. It seems to go quite well and he is happy with it. No idea about how it's done myself
though.

The biggest engine that I would suggest is a 3.8 Holden V6. Otherwise a Ford 250 OHC 6 or even a Holden 186.
In a ute what you need is TORQUE so stay away from high revving DOHC 2 litre buzz box engines. For simplicity go pre computer. Make sure that you put
a very big radiator in it.

hey mate, i have i bit of interest in this one too, i used to work with a guy with an 84' single cab with a 308, but that was the 5 speed box...
i may be wrong but the column shift on falcons and commodores cant handle any extra power, and given a small 4cylinder car has less power than a
comodore..... a 5 speed may be the go, and will make driving more fun too!!!!!!!!!!!
my mate at the moment in perth is half way through a holden 253 conversion in his 96' lux 4x4, but because the car is newer he has to run it on gas
to meet emissions standards,
if its a 2X4, (it is isn't it) a supra turbo 5 speed or a standard nissan box is a fairly easy conversion, but if it was my choice for a non 4 wd
hilux i would go a twin cam SR20T, the engines are out of silvias' and 200sx, my mate has this engine in his datsun 1600 and ran 13.22 at kwinana
motorplex on the 8th of march, FAST ENGINES!!!
http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/featurecars/p510.htm
heres the page with the sr20 conversions on my mates car and a few others
good luck n be prepared to spend thousands................... at LEAST!!!!!!!

you can either go the 1jz or the 2jz motor's which are toyota motor's
which i don't know to much about but i have only heard good report'a about them
but the nissan motor's the sr20t is pretty good or you can go an older engine the fj20t which is nissan
also, the only difference between the sr and the fj engine's is the sr is alloy block and the fj is cast block.
i don't really know which is better some say cast as it is ment to be stronger than the alloy and can run more boost.
depend's what you want to do with it either drive it as a daily or drag it. the hilux diff's are men't to be
pretty good as i have had mate's take there diff out of there rotorary's and put hilux diff's in ther car's as they are stronger
and had no problem on the strip with them or on the road i have been in a couple that go real hard like run low and high 9second quarter's,
you can be in 3rd gear doin 140km/h pop the clutch and broad side down the road. but with any of these other engine converison'
i would go a supra 5speed as a gearbox. depend's on what you want a V8, V6 or 4 cyclinder if it was me i would go either the 6 or 4 cyclinder
as i have been in to many of these car's that just eat V8's i have 2 mate's that have 200sx's and run down the quarter mile between 11 and 12
second's
they prob would run quicker if they wanted to spend real big $$$ on them. really up to you on how many $$$ you want to spend.
i will find out more info on the toyota motor's for you weather it is easier than the nissian converison.
