help:leaking fuel pump 1600 kombi

hey guys, leaking fuel from the pump, i think it may have something to do with full tank of petrol...it appeared to be coming from the back of the pump...i removed the pump and found an opening at the back of the pump, i assume this is supposed to be there, is that some type of release/overflow valve? or what do you think

Hole is vent for diaphram. Sounds like your diaphram has a hole in it = new pump

ok, how dangerous to drive to mechanic to get fixed, or should i just buy a new pump, it wasnt dificult to take on and off i assume that is all i need to do to put new pump on, are there any lubricants that need to be put in, what is that rod in the bottom called when i took off the pump does it need to be lubricated?

How dangerous? well I wouldn't risk it, my brother lost his splitty to an engine bay fire. A new pump shouldn't need lubricating but the only spot you my need to grease is where the fuel pump push rod meets the operating levers in the pump.

make sure you take your old one with when u buy a new one
there are a few kinds out there
some have long or short push rods and alternator/gererator ones are different too but not as important
i fit a genny style one on my alternator engine, its tight but it fits

Dare I state it but repco might have rebuild kits for this still. But this onyl works IF the pump is servicable/able to be disassembled.

Cheers

they;re pretty good at stokers siding, got me out of trouble a few times
im pretty sure the threaded line in was on the old early 60s style 12 and 1300 motors if ur new one doesnt have it id say youll have to cut it shorter and put a piece of flexible hose in
make sure to get new clamps!!
