Yeah, its hard that the only response you get when selling splits is from OS...my 57 panel went to a pom a year or so ago...and now the ute is getting interest from OS...at least they do them nice...

Well, if no one bids enough on them, to the highest bidder i say. I have been selling junk (and if i'm getting rid of it, it's stuff i don't need) on ebay at the moment while off work for an injury. Now this stuff i couldn't give away at swap meets i have been going to. Dragging this stuff around for years to be told it's to exy, dented, dusty, not made on the same day as by car!! you know what i mean. Anyway, selling this stuff on ebay with full description and photo's and i have been making a killing.
I too used to get all shitty at the thought of stuff going OS, but if you want it, buy it, but if you can't/won't/too broke etc etc etc, then the man with the biggest wallet wins.

Split's on ebay and parts etc can still be had at aussie swap meets, but if you really want it, put your hands in your pocket and do it. I recently sold a 57 split to an aussie and i was very pleased it went to a fellow Victorian, BUT if i needed the money and the buyer was from OS, so be it. His money is the same as anyones.

I bought a radio off ebay in the netherlands and i'm wraped. to find one of these here would have been a joke, plus the price would have been very exy, but selling the shit i had around the garage has enabled me to buy the blaupunkt for my splitty. Everyone wins :)

My own 2 cent's
Cheers:beer

Was that a container van from Adelaide?
How much did it go for?
These dudes from sws are larfing at us as most Aussies won't pay for somthing the UK wants.
After they pay transport to the docks, shipping, taxes and other expenses they still make good money.
It comes down to effort and passion.
Seems alot of people in Aus looking for splitscreens for projects but let lots go by as they will not pay for them.
Soon there will be none left and everyone will be bummed and complaining that the poms took them all.
So get off the dream chair and buy a split and keep them here.
Prevention is the best cure.

Unfortunately people will have to pay to keep them, but that the way it is. I paid a fair price for my new split, but it's a fair increase on what I would have paid, maybe 1-2 years ago, but it's unique. I was looking at single cab that I would like and I didn't quibble at the price mentioned, it's what it's worth to you that counts, not the resale value once you've spent 30k getting it restored. If the Oz scene is to survive then people are going to have to dive in now, the days of bargains are over, the UK pound is here to stay

agreed. the man with the ready's will get the prize. You have to act now, when a opportunity comes up to buy one, grab it!
He who hesitates will loose everytime. The O/S buyers don't bat an eyelid, they have the money ready and waiting.

i dont like seeing our splits going overseas but to keep them here we have to pay market price and if the overseas market is driving the prices up theres not much we can do except do your research so you know whats a good price and if you see something you like get the wallet out.

I don't think anyone really likes the vw heritage disappearing, but realistically the market price should be driven by the local market and all that entails, especially if it needs a lot of work. What makes the price unaffordable over here is the lack of readily available spares and people to do the work, but sellers just see the uk prices and go for that.
In the UK I lived just outside of Newquay, deepest darkest Cornwall, but there were at least 5 vw body shops of good quality and another 5 - 10 independant spares shops within an hour of me. The postage is manageable from the states and takes 3-4 days. All the stats add up against us to keep the vw's alive.
