well they are being restored, and that is going to affect our values for sure if it pulls off.
pity though that they have to search abroad. many here are prepared for restos. look at CCC efforts and others.

if an independant person sells o/s good on the person, im just against the ones
that sell in bulk o/s & are only in it for the money money money thats wrong.
a full resto will cost about $25,000 to $30,000 its a lot but its an investment.

It will definately affect our values here, but the problem is that less will be available and those that are will be very expensive, less people
coming into the scene and slowly, but surely the scene dying. When these are all restored we'll have to buy them back at UK prices.

mmm, well having recently been in the UK for a few months, then I'd say that the 'Aussie Bus myth' - ie - rain and rot free and the buy price inc
shipping would be very attractive to the pommies.
Check out VW Relics in the UK (Google it), he drags stuff in from o/s and sells it for more than this.
Be interesting to see. As the DSK et al spy network is ever looking for stuff on a local daily basis, not sure that this promise can be delievered
on.
I'd argue that if a Westie, a 21/23, Barnie or Crew turned up, then there are enough split nutters here to snap them up.
I'd think the stock list would be 11s, singles and panels. But not DDs etc., just the sort of stuff we'd be paying a couple of grand for tops to
restore...
BUT, if someones figured out (an no one start a venture like this on a whim) that they can buy all the 1-3k buses here, strip 'em and ship 'em, then
low end project buses will dry up, and so prices here will rise as supply is limited.
I do remember a time, not sooo long ago, that you could get projects for the price of a tow, but now people want $$$$ for them. To me unless it's
rego'd running and unmolested (ie 10k entry point), then be prepared to spend and keep spending.
I'd expect to pay 25-35k for a fully restored bus - and by that I mean body/paint/mechanicals end to end. Not everyone wants to sink that kind of
money into a bus.
I reckon the hot price point for locals is the 8-12k department right now. Get a good ride for that still....but as the projects dry up at the bottom
price range, I'd wager that in 2 years time you'd be paying 20k for the same thing.
Think that early bays are already going that way, esp campers and crew cabs.
So get in now before the rush people....the brits are comming....it's a good job the local 'forum' network is alive and kicking ... methinks well
just be shipping stuff that realistically, few locals would want to spend the kind of money on needed to get restored.

who would have thought a split kombi would be more sort after than a karman ghia ,i got a split so i am rubbing my hands together , the only problem
is i wont sell it so untill the day if that ever happens (doubt it) i am happy to see it go up and up and up , it probably like the house market the
boom will end

hasn't ended anywhere else yet, despite the abomination panel conversion on Pimp My Ride ... but thats the kind of crap that we'll start to see as
people chase the quick $$$$. That will push yours up and up ... yours would have to be one of the most valuable now ... as it would appeal to the
non-vw people that just want a cool ride ... have it on good authority that Russell Crowe is looking for a 21/23 window...(can't say anymore)...still
think that non-vw people drive the pricing to a greater extent...as lets face it, most VW people have done the hard yards for the love of it...Mr

Yeah... I had this, my old 1979 Moke "Manny" up for sale on a local internet bb down here, shoalhaven.net.au...
I ended up getting a reply actually from a bloke on the east coast, New Hampshire I think... he was willing to pay 4000 bucks AU for it as you see it
in the pics, plus shipping...which worked out fairly expensive also... and it wasnt even a Cali'... jus a standard 998cc, unrestored, with a fair
rust problem down the left side (as can be seen... and the chassis rail was starting to rust bad), a bent steering column, and a bung left CV...
Americans are crazy I tell ya!... :duh
Mind you, I decided against selling it OS...too mch of a pain in the ass to ship it, and besides... I wanted it to stay in the country...hehe... not
have some lazy seppo take it and end up havin it rust away cos of there stupid road salt. Ended up selling it for half as much, but it was to a
couople in Toowoomba, so I was happy anyway... cos it least it stayed at home! 
People who sell bulkloads of kombi's to lazy so and so's overseas should burn IMHO... AND the same with people who ship nice Mokes! :vader

Are there any splits left in rural OZ?
most dealers in the uk go to the usa as there is more supply the shipping is cheaper, it is nearer, they are only getting hard ons as they think they
are going to be cheap. Most now moan about the import costs, and vat they pay. thats not to say a few aren't targeting oz.
it must have put prices up in this country to a degree hasn't it. Oh and this country is huge. so to get the van could be big time and money

they wont need to import buses to the uk soon they will have replacment chassis to go with the replacment panels, then you will be able to build your
own bus from scratch. only 40 last month thats not so bad .

There are so many people selling oz imports in the UK now, there is one guy that's selling late bays for the equiv of $23k, has put in his advert
that Oz prices are going up and they are now hard to find. I wonder if he's ever thought what might be driving the prices up, maybe it's the fact
that people are peed off about selling them for 4-6k and then seeing them with a healthy 15-18k mark up, not counting costs of course.
I could be complacent and say that I'm ok, I have 2 splits, 2 early Bays and a 63 Karmann Ghia and I'm still after one more to complete the
collection, but I'm hoping that the Oz scene will grow, eventually getting a big weekend long show going here in qld with RYWB and all the aspects
that make the UK scene so good, I spent so long in the UK scene, that you tend to miss the shows, volksworld this weekend, then the shows don't stop.
As Frogsta has said in the past, it just needs a few vw's around, to show people what you can do with them, the people who don't want to run stock
height or a subie conversion, then hopefully people will be prepared to invest in some solid german metal, just need a bigger presence, pity the
country is all stretched out.

That would be the ideal, I could near enough drive the length of Britain (the bits you want to be in after dark anyway) in the time it takes to drive
to Sydney. Are there any good show sites with a 1/4 mile strip in Central NSW? seems to be the middle ground for a large percentage of vw owners here.
Still trying to persuade the other half to get to the split together though.

split together is other half friendly - that's the plan, it aint a tomb stone show, nice park, pleanty of time to relax, walk on the beach, cruise to
historic Tilba for coffee, cake and shopping, then back to Narooma for a get together with more stuff to see, then back for a evening piss up and
schmooze - stay in yer bus, book a cabin ... it's chosen for it's family-friendly location and easy relaxing weeken. Local - for ACT/NSW/VIC meet
point....Valla being northen get together in August...all types welcome.
