inaccurate odometers

well my speedo reads spot on but i had suspisions my odometer wasnt reading right so on my way to work this morning i checked it against the 10km markers
i just took pics of it so i could remeber the milage
and it came up 09828, 09841 and 09853 so it read 13 the first time and 12 the 2nd
wierd that the speedos fine but the odo is way out
anyone ever exprienced this and know what the fix is?
oh yeah ignore the idiot driving one handed at 170km :P
ah the joy of quiet country roads at 6:30 in the morning lol

this happened with our kombi, it was reading low, & eventually i could hear a very faint click once every kilometer, pulling the speedo apart I found that one of the teeth on the odometer drive cog was worn, evry time it went around it paused silightly, easy fix to replace the cog with another

Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/Kombikim/avatar1.jpg

yep had the same thing in one of mine

Speedo read accurate. Compared by driving next to a known good dunnydore, but the odometer only clicked over 4km in a 5km marker

Made me happy cause i thought i had crap fuel economy.

20% instant increase!

kmh speedos were standard in all bugs after 73
its the 1600 out of my first superbug its just got some head work, twin carbs, extractors, electronic ign when it works and the standaed single side plate 3.88 box
it is slightly over geared though at the moment, its running on borrowed 215x55/17s off a mates subi as my standard 165s have perished real badly
the factory AS 1600 that was in it when i got it had never been rebuilt and had heads that were loose as buggery still woundout to 145km

I have no suggestion to make about your odometer but a few years ago when I was just about to sell my VL Commondore the odometer started to read 1000km for every 1 km I travelled. A genuine well maintained 165,000 km car became a difficult to sell 240,000 car in about a week. OUCH!!!!

the speedo and odometer are two different systems.

The odometer is geared off the input shaft.

The speedo is turned by the spinning drum on the end.
