One piece windows
Ok I know that some people love them and some loath them but I'd like to hear any first hand experiances with one piece windows. I have a set with
dual lift mechanisms so that should be fine. Any suggestions as to rubbers would also be appreciated. |

theres a set in my black bug as well as i hjave a new kit in the shed that i never fitted to my Lbug as i dont think i could go with out smokers
windows in it
they are great when its warm (watch out for bees in your lap though)
the only thing i will give one piece windows is if they are set up right there is alot less wind noise
that is the hardest part thouggh seting them up right
i spent ages making them work right by glueing carpet inside the door skins to stop rattling, replacing the crappy channel and scrappers u get with
them with decent stuff, making the scrappers follow the curve of the windows at the ends and finally making up a front guide track for the glass
normally they just rely on the rear one and the lifter to hold them in place but by adding a front guide channel it really made them more solid
twin lifters make a hell of difference too but i dont know what model bugs had them
i have one in my passenger door and the whole thing works so much more smoothly

no stress, great price on the windows if you do get them I paid a lot more for mine Ok so people are saying they are cool if installed correctlt with the correct hardware. As I am yet to purchase the celt channels and
various rubbers does anyone have a comment on this aspect? I also have power windows so if thats a factoe then I'd like to know more also.

Hi,
I was going to have them in My 68.... thats the only late model beetle that had the double lifters....
late models only have the one lifter....
I don't think power windows would make any difference.
I was going to get the one piece windows and power kit from the UK... but was talked out of it by a local who had them in his 68 beetle, and then put
the 1/4 windows back in.... now that would be hard....
You will need to find out who sells the outer scraper that goes around each end... normal ones are straight...
they look terrible... I have seen the others about...
Probably the same for the inner scraper too... ??
Those 68 double lifters fetch about $100+ each....
a fellow at Valla/Nambucca always has a heap of them for sale... but He's been collecting them for 20 years...
finally, I wouldn't recommend them....
they only have one thing in their favour....
they make it a lot more difficult to break into the car...
as the 1/4 window can be forced open - when the catch breaks off...
If You like the look of them....
Paint the 1/4 window frame etc black...
looks just as good... especially with tinted windows..

Yes I am aware that there are two definite schools of thought towards once piece windows but that’s the way with almost everything Volkswagen.
Generally however this urban myth is based of nothing more than someone once said "bla" I myself love to read other opinions i.e. Bob Hoover or Gene
Berg (very outspoken fellows) but then make my own choices as I have never installed them I am not in a situation to comment. If the success or
failure is based on skill and effort then I am sure these will be a great addition to my car that will be breaking several other assumptions.
Now does anyone have any recommendations about suitable rubbers? |

How about people posts some pics........... of the front corner especially. For cars that live outside 24/7 those great gaps that are left with most
kits and a put off in my opinion. If some one can show how to do a good water proof version i may think again

ok this is what barry is talking about
the standard str8 rubbers just glue in place and look really daggy at the ends coz they dont follow the contour of the window
on my yellow bug i bought a length of the same scrapper and slitted and shapped it to match the curves-its a prick of a job but well worth the effort
in the end
the standard 1 point lifters of 69 on beetles do the job fine
there just abit more steadier on the 68 only twin point lifters

sorry 555 bug,
the local who changed back to 1/4 windows had a 1976 Beetle not a 68 , but He said He had no problems with the single lifters... just didn't like
them....
but He must have liked them at one stage.....??
He is a smoker.... maybe thats why....
I have seen cars with the rounded rubbers, but only in the past few years... I think the kits had the straight ones.
Vintage Vee Dub might know about them...
they seem to know most things....
and I agree about Bob Hoover...
He only has one point of view.... His...
Good reading though....
I was reading about free horsepower only a few days ago.
I can't remember whether it was something I have printed in a folder or on a website.....
