I usually go to Falls Creek, and have been to Thredbo once too... Thredbo was awesome!

When skiing, I hate using stocks... I'd rather just face the right way and hoon all the way to the bottom, can never go fast enough on skiis! :P Am yet to try snowboarding...

... and no, I don't take PBB. She'd get too cold!

I'll be at Mt Selwyn (with the wife and child who have never skied before) for 3 1/2 days 31st July to 3rd August.
Back to Wollongong Thursday arvo, unpack 1 suitcase, load up another, head to Valla early Friday morning.

I like the snow, have been maybe 6 times. I can get down a mountain, but probably not well enough to be called a skier.

How much harder is snowboarding to skiing? Thinking as I have 2 absolute beginner skiers with me I might as well be an absolute beginner too. I've never ridden a surf or skateboard so I'm guessing it will be a little tough.

I used to be a skier, but as my fitness went I got into boarding. I'd give the boarding a go Chris, just have to get past the first day of a lot of arse bashing.......did that sound right?

Perisher is my usual spot - love it. Can't wait

I used to drive my hottie Beetle down there with the skis strapped to the rear bumper and a single roofrack mounted across the decklid. Might do it again instead of a RR or Pajero or whatever this year - just for fun!

EDIT: Might re-fit the heater boxes, too!

Yeah Perisher is the place for me. Skied non stop for 10 years, then missed 10 years. Took my little girl for her first ski a couple of year ago. It was the best weekend ever - watching her learn, teaching her, then by the end of the weekend telling me to wait down the bottom for her.

Got a pic somewhere of my Notch covered with a foot in Jindabyne in the mid 80's. Also took my KG down one year - without heaters! Left Sydney at 8pm. By the time I hit Goulburn, I was wearing my ski jacket, balaclava, gloves, and had wrapped myself in my sleeping bag for the rest of the drive. Arrived at about 2am - surprisingly warm LOL.

I hit Hotham whenever I can (when funds allow) to go boarding. I like the idea of my legs both going in the one direction... I wanna take my oval this year if I go up twice. My gf will be going with me the first time and I don't think she'd appreciate being cooped up in a beetle for the 330minute trip up to Harrietville, let alone up the mountain itself! Anyone else besides VWCOOL hit the slopes in thier old VW? How do the drum brakes hold up?

i had pondered the same question tofu. if i get game ill let you know how i went. i seem to remember that the road between harrietville and hotham is a longer drive than mtbeauty to fallscreek. so falls might be manageable.rob.

That'd be so ideal... snowbarding/skiing in the winter, then crash at your own place. Then in the summer, go downhilling and crash at your own place.. nice work!

I've always want to do the mountain biking at Thredbo. I went up there in summer a few years ago, it was awesome!
I climbed Mt Kosciusko and the village was about 32 degrees C (was 40 degrees in Sydney) and at the top of the huge chairlift it was -3 degrees with a -12 windchill factor Nice weather for a 12km walk! :P

I've taken the kombi up to the snow a few times... Handled it fine... But I guess i'm a little newer and a little higher out of the ice than you :)
