Kombi wheel bearings
Ive recently installed a ball joint front end into my 67 bus. When I turn into a sharp corner ( either direction ) the outside wheel hub lets out a
faint, high hum. I checked the end float and this seems ok, when I packed the new bearings the hubs were pretty much full of grease. Any suggestions
on what is causing the noise?
Also the front of my bus is a couple of inches lower than the rear but this has taken the caster out. Ive adjusted the caster bushes to give me as
much as I canbut I would still like some more. Is there a fix for this?

What sort of grease did You use?
I only use Lithium based Moly grease which will quieten
most bearings CV Joints etc....
The 'normal' grease is usually soap based.... !!
Only use the best....
Sorry I can't help You with the noise....
If You have front disc Brakes....
Bearings and brake discs are very related..... naturally...

When a Beetle ball joint disc brake front end is lowered,
Caster Shims are added between the lower torsion bar
tube and the chassis... so the lower torsion bar is pushed forward.....
These may be available for Kombis....
I'm guessing that kombi torsion bar tubes are a different size to Beetles....

PS... These castor shims may be used on King/Link Pin
front ends too.... I'm not sure.... Lee

I used a high speed bearing grease I assumed that would be ok. If it isnt I'd like to know, they are new bearings and I don't want to damage
them.
Kombi front ends are bolted in from the sides so shims wont work I was thinking of relocating the holes slightly. Has anybody done this? How much
does it have to move.

for disc brakes you should use hi temp or hi melting point grease as the brake temps are higher, not moly grease,it sounds like thats what you used
,did you pack the bearings correctly?
dont just fill the hub and wipe a bit around the bearing it needs to be inside the bearing :beer

I packed the bearings before installing them working the grease in turning them working more grease but if it seems they may be running dry I'll pull
the hubs and check. They only make the noise when pushed into a corner.

dumb questions 1 ,did you replace the outer race? 2 did you do up the adjuster really tight in the first instance then turn the wheel so the
bearing will center then back off the adjuster for the correct adjustment?:beer

Possibly not tight enough checked again this morning and there was too much play. Tightened it right up a couple of times spinning the wheel then set
the end float again all good today. Thanks guys.
