help!! kombi is surging and now wont start


can anyone offer any suggestions... my kombi is a 74 model. when driving in 3rd or 4th gear the engine gives a heave and then its like theres a sudden surge (ie kanga jump) which happens a couple of times then nothing then happens again.. does anyone know what i can do?? also, now the car wont start... does anyone konw why???

sounds like a fuel problem, might be worth checking your fuel pump, get a container, take one hose off the carby and point it in the container (icecream 4L shud do it) and get a helper to crank her over... you should see a decent amount of fuel coming out... if there is plenty then maybe a blocked jet or something.

hi there, good advice i'll be trying that later but have discovered a new development, while at idle there is a small backfire occuring... unsure whether this is a connected problem or yet anouther new one... any advice would be great cheers

backfiring is usually related to running too lean, supporting the lack of fuel pump action...

when i decelerate using engine braking my exhaust pops as the mixture leans out.

could also be ignition, does it have electronic or points, i had major bunnyhopping hickups in my bus, turned out the fuel pump was basically freeflow from the tank, no pressure and the ignition had worn loose on its spindle so was poling out randomly. bad combination.
