34pict wont idle? Dont trust ur ears!
After refitting a reco genny I couldn't get an idle. Everything checked OK. No leaks-ie about 24" of vacuum etc etc. The anti-dieseling cut-off
valve seemed to be working coz it clicked every time it powered up. I removed it anyway to put in a fibre washer & decided to bench test it & found
the solenoid clicked ok but the piston didn't go back & forth! No spare so I took the piston off with bolt cutters & it idles fine now. It remains 2
b seen if I really need the damn thing!
Gawd I hate these things! Anthiron, it was a damn shame that adaptor didn't work!

HI
I am no expert on these things But when mine would not idle,
I took out both the idle mixture screw and air flow screw and make sure they are clean and where they go is clean, Then I got some throttle body
cleaner and with the engine warm and the revs up sprayed it a few times down the top of the carby.
Hope this helps
Marc

You can spray just about any thing on the carburetor with the engine idling roughly,
and whatever You spray on will close up any air leaks momentairly.....
I have heard of people cutting the piston off the electromagnetic cut-off valve.....
due to its failure....
Since those cut-off valves have been on VW engines,
there has been no run-on problems...
as the engine can't run on, however hot it is,
because it doesn't have any fuel.....
Are You going to replace it?
Lee

theres adapters to fit the smaller carbs on to twin port manifolds so there are probably adapters to go the other way
or just do what someone did with the manifold bond was selling
cut the ends off a single port manifold and use them instead of twin port end peices on the later twin port center section

Motor is 1600TP
Adaptor is to put 30pict2 on 34pict manifold.
U CAN slot the holes but good luck getting the carb mounting bolts on LOL!!!
Adaptor didn't go coz the 30 pict has a smaller flange & the throttle crank fouls the wider 34pict manifold flange It can be avoided by offsetting
the crank or with a bit of height-abt 15mm. It could work with a 30pict manifold flange cut off & used as a spacer. Or maybe the exhaust flange or 2
off a discarded old heater box. HMMM! Plenty of those lying around- I might give it a go!! Or as dub74L says- weld the flange on the TP manifold.
No, Lee, I WONT put it back. It's 1 less thing to go wrong. We'll see if it runs on when I sw off 1st.

ive spaced the trottle arms out on carbys before due to problems. i just used washers off other carbys as spacers and it worked well.
i tend to agree with lee though id get another solinoid as i bet after a hard run that your engine runs on.
oh and i just realised my mistake about the carbys and manafolds i was thinking it was the other way around lol.
