"they made beetles about then, are you sure its not one of them with a bodykit.."
um.....
guess its my fault for going to repco!

I don't like REPCO , as I used to deal with them when working...
I could buy their stuff dirt cheap on a Work order form...
but If I went into their shop they charged nearly double the price....
BUT All You VW people on Here...
You should ONLY buy VW parts from VW shops...
My closest VW shop is over 300kms away....
so I don't actually go to a shop...
I have to order the parts before I need them....
and they are much cheaper then REPCO.... etc...
and they will know what You are talking about....

If I don't head to the VW store I go into Gamac Auto Spares at Seven Hills. His got a store at Mt Pritchard also but I've never been there.
That guy is always so cheap and has everything you need, usually the hard to find stuff the larger stores don't carry.
Worth checking it out if you need anything for the car.

Sorry,
I'm not having a go at You XL5,
but I noticed when working in spare parts that many
manufacturers were dropping VW models off their new lists every year--
Electricial, spark plugs, fan belts , bearings & seals, etc....
Eventually all the beetle cross reference numbers etc had disappeared....
from the parts listings....

I think they go to Swap Meets...
and a lot of them....
as I've seen New spark plugs - 2-3 times the size of VW plugs...
Brand new wrapped in wax paper or something at Swap Meets....
You could probably ask any price for things like that...
Chris,
We are lucky that there are still thousands of VWs all around the world...
and companies are still making bits for them in Denmark,Switzerland, USA,
UK, Germany, and of course Brasil and Mexico..
and of course Taiwan [Republic of China]
Genuine parts are from Germany, Brasil & Mexico where Volkswagen has Factories...
I would think Genuine German parts will soon dry up...
although Beetle owners in the US can still go to their local VW shop and buy genuine beetle spares...
Now thats Unreal....
So, We are the lucky ones when it comes to old cars or Hot Rods, Vintage, Veteran Cars etc...
Lee
PS: I have bought VW parts made in all those countries...

well thats not too bad then.
Spose it is easier to look after an old car that had such an international market, compared to say an old holden or something more specific to one or
2 nations.

I didn't think anyone sold VW plugs these days...
I remember a local who bought a beetle for His daughter to drive,
bought some new plugs from the local Parts shop,
they didn't have the right ones but sold Him some that were close...
either hotter or colder...??:o:o

Spark plugs used to be made in Australia...
KLG was the brand....
never heard anything bad about them....
then they were made in Yugoslavia...
then they disappeared....
Champion may be made here but I've never used them...
heard too many stories about them....
only use them in My lawn mower...
I always prefered Bosch ... made in germany..
Now NGK seem to be the best.... made in Japan..
although I have used Beru in My VWs over the years when I bought parts from VW shops, I used to buy spark plugs... and usually Beru... I have Beru in
My Beetle now..
I usually carry a set of spare plugs in the car....

T-buckets have Clevelands and Chev's and crap in em... the only thing Model-T about em is the name in the case of most modern ones... they are
generally custom-built buy enthusiasts from run of the mill easy to source parts.
Early buckets may be a different story..

Yep... Ive nwever had problems with NGK plugs, and they seem to last forever, so I'm just as confident in them as Bosch.

If you are in Melbourne and have a Subaru motor in a VW, try VolksBaru or Tucker Rd Motors. They both know VW's and Subaru's

The last time I went to Repco was to buy 4 litres of K & H Black Primer... Nothing on the shelf so I went to the desk...
'Hey just looking for 4 litres of K & H Black Primer, but there's none on the shelf'
Goofy guy says...'Oh okay' So he looks on the shelf for about two to three minutes before I told him...
'You d**khead can't you see there's not even any 4 litre tins of anything, f**k it I'll go elsewhere'
He didn't like that comment too much.
