1600cc & Pict 34 Carb tuning
Dudes,
I have a 1600cc engine with a sports air filter of some sort and sports exhaust in my recently purchased 356 replica. The thing I think has been re
jetted a bit rich in anticipation of more available power. It farts and backfires like a dog that has eaten cheap dogfood. What jet sizes abd
tuningtechniques do you guys suggest?

Thanks for the advice guys, I will give it a go.
As to the Dizzy no idea. I only got the car last week and still learning about it. Its my first V-dub.
I planned to put a WRX engine in it but the wallet speaks and have decided to save my dough for a while.
The speedster currently weights 700kg, any suggestions for a donk?
Anyone know what HP a 1916 POPJOY puts out? How streetable are they for a daily drive with twin webbers, what milage can I expect?

Has the dissy got a vacuum can?
Easy visual check.
If there is no can on the distributor body you've got a mechanical advance distributor.
If it is a 009 (search...) then they don't play well with 34 Pict 3's as a rule.

OK- Getting under the bonnet I now realise i have a 30 PIct -2 carb.
So off to that great VW-Resource site.
That makes me ask the question of what engine I have?
The engine number is AB465786 vin 1112962616 meant to be built in 1/71?
Infact does anyone know the origins of my car?
Black 356A replica going around Sydner....

hi,
going by the numbers
You only have a 1300cc engine from 1972...
ie made between 1st august 1971-31st july 1972
And a 1971 chassis
ie made between 1st august 1970-31st july 1971
the engine could have been made larger...
probably still single port by the carburetor...
a good fuel saver engine....
Stan Pobjoy engines are the engines....
1916cc is the greatest....
BIG difference.... to a 1300cc
cheers

Australian VW performance should be able to help You..
Just don't go to a non vw shop etc...
they usually do more harm than good...
Best of luck
Lee
Check out the Australian VW magazine at a newsagent
You will find most VW shops listed in there... Lee

Don't know whether this is of any value, but came across it the other day in relation to 009 and 34's:
