Importing a Kombi from USA
Does anyone know how much it would roughly cost to transport a VW Kombi from the states to Australia?
I am thinking of buying one from the states. They seem quite less expensive than the ones for sale here and in heaps better condition.
Can you register a left hand drive in AUstralia? How much? |

This is the reply I got ,same question.
Roll on Roll off is available again between Oz and US (wasn't when I bought my 23 window back). Bout US$1500 all in.
LHD to RHS convesrion isn't difficult on a split - hardest part is the dash. Remember that your cargo doors will also be on the 'wrong'
side in a bus tho - not a problem for a single cab of course.
You could be disappointed too. Lotsa California cars are crusty - just buying from Ca is no guarantee. Think a vehicle that has spent its life in
Arizona would be a lower risk (market is cheaper, cars are drier...)

Be very careful buying something you physically have not seen i have heard of someone buying a 924 (i don't know why) from the US to find that
the photos sent from US were cheated ie the chrome was all silverpainted to look fresh and the paintwork photoshopped it turns out the car had been
in the river and was shot...... if you cant go and look at it you may get ripped off
Keeping it real !

their stuff's no cheaper than ours, in some cases even more, and then you have the added hassel of converting it if you choose to do so, just be
patient, and keep looking, get your friends to keep an eye out as well, most people here are quite glad to bring a VW into the fold and get it away
from infidels.
