yeah they are awsome....would LOVE ONE myself. but an ej20t came up..never too late to switch oece the convfersion is done though, so once i get bored with the EJ20T i might change to a 13bturbo for some REAL power :D

there is one white one in perthw ith a 13bt in it but i heard that it has had some problems getting off the mark.

There are two people on this forum you should ask.

13BVW
name: Andrew Smith
Location : Ipswich near brisbane
Project: 13b turbo rotary into 1964 manx (ongoing for 10 years)
pefomance : 216 rwhp runs 11.93 @114mph on street tyres

See the end of "who is modifying what and where" post. I have no idea how it is legal.

and

quick camper
Aaron, has a matt black 76 bay kombi camper with a 20B turbo. Think he has about 500HP. Runs 12.10 or so down the quarter, quite insane. See page 2 and 3 of the same post. QLD as well.

Wes is correct regarding legally fitting a 13b turbo let alone a NA 13B into a bug dont think it can be done. Mine however wasn't built here it was rotorised back in 1989 in New Zealand the previous owner brought it over with him when he emigrated here in 1996 he then spent several months changeing things such as wheels (too wide) extending the bumpers to the width of the car and having some more strengthening in the pan to get it registered as it was previously regd in NZ i believe thats how its allowed. I purchased it a few months after it was regd.

True. Sunbug with the suicide doors was rotary powered.

I remember leaving Richmond after the nats on year in my dodgy rusty old splitty when this rotary screamer pulled up at the lights next to me. I asked him to give it a bit, and I never seen anything take off so quick, and with such a commotion. I think it was a red oval - my memory is fading.....well it was the Nats at Richmond so that's a few cones ago now. :jesus:jesus:jesus

Hi Andrew,

Good to see you on the forum. I've seen your 13BVW around for years, at Harry's diner once I think and at willowbank.

If people want to use a near current version of the 13B (like from the RX8), and use the stock emission gear, then you could register it as an ICV. Then you'd be able to run whatever tyre sizes you want. There are quite a few other annoying things you'd have to do, but it can be done. Custom offroad does ICV's. That's how wild things like EJ25T powered buggies with huge mudders get registered.

Hey there guys i am the proud owner of a rotary powered vw . It is a 1969 baja packing a large extended port injected 13b out the back. all work was performed in the garage and the performance is nothing short of unreal. Feel free to ask any questions or for pics of build . a web site of the build is currently under construction .

to add an image just resize it to under 50kb and use the attachement feature when you post a reply.

an ICV is an individually constructed vehicle. There is a lot of work involved, as you need to make the car meet modern ADR requirements. The hardest part is the engine emissions requirement, but if you use and engine ecu from a current spec engine then you don't have to get it tested.

Then once the car is ready you have to write a rather large report showing how the car complies with all the rules, and ADR requirements. And then you need an approval engineer to sign off on it all to approve it.

Read the LO section of the NCOP and you'll get some idea of what needs to be done.

That's not a reason. You can register a bug as an ICV, so long as it meets all the ADR requirements.

Just like you can register a long wheel base buggy as a modified production vehicle (rebodied LH5/LH6 so only the body needs to meet the new ADR's) or an ICV where the whole car needs to meet the ADR's.

imho getting a kombi to run 12.01 cannot be done with a wrx engine but maybe in two decades or so it'll get somewhere close:kiss the quickest cars up here sunny coast are all rotors id love to put one in a manx but i rekon it'd be scary even at 120-130kph
