bug coversion volunteers

Hi All,
I currently have a 93 RS liberty and love the performance it gives, but i my first love was a 74 beetle. I was wanting to find out if there was anyone on here who would be interested in doing a ej20t conversion on a 74 bug, and how much $ would be involved (have a basic understanding of cost). This is just a very preliminary enquiry. I've been looking at doing some thing like this for a while, the thing is i would have to sell the RS to bank roll the idea, so there is a lot of weight up the pros and cons of such an idea. Any yes, no or maybes welcome. (ps i live in wollongong, NSW)
Thanks

I would say that you would have to be fair to yourself and allow $6000 to do the job from start to finish, including engineers certificate.

Yeah i figured it would cost about that much, but it more comes down to how much a potential installer would want for doing the job.

A Kombi costs just under $9K drive in drive out; there are more body mods with a Beetle (radiator, rear firewall etc) so will potentially cost more. If you are able to do 'major' installation work yourself - metalwork, like choosing and designing coolig systems, radiator brackets etc - the cost can be your time and some bits of steel

Use the search function on here; several threads of costs etc

Yeah i've searched the cost of doing the conversion. I was kinda wanting to know a drive in and drive out cost for someone to do the conversion for me. I'm not really keen on tackling the job myself, i'm concerned that i would make some sort of costly mistake. Plus i think the result would be better if somone with experience did the conversion.

If you're in the gong you could try Wayne Penrose at Unanderra or Dunham at Woonona

Give me a call on 0416 115 993. Lots of little differences are becomming aparent with the sourcing of motors etc, and the bearing on additional costs. For example we have soent more on little things on the current motor, than the motor cost to start with. May have found an awesome contact for engines..will keep you posted.

Hey Pete, did you get my U2U?

I choose not to discuss things like that with my partner due to immediate negative response. If you are ever up in sydney, give me a buzz and I will take you for a drive in my bug.
