What haveI got?
Can Anyone Help. I have recently bought an Australian made Beetle of around the 1962 era. V.I.N.:4408523 Eng:6389548. I am wondering if this car is
one of the last 1962 Beetles, or one of the First 1962 1/2 Models. It has a Fuel Gauge, 3 Section Tail lights and a Ribbed type Hood Lining. (appears
to be a 62 1/2) The Samba Site is useful for American and Export Models but doesn't appear to help me with the Australian made Beetles (Vin & Eng Nos
on the Samba Site make this car a 1962 model). Can anyone help with a web site for chassis dating of aussie made vw's. Cheers Danno |

I don't know of any Aussie VW sites with that info...
Volkswagen Australasia used numbers similar to what they used in Wolfsburg so its very difficult..
Maybe someone here has the info....
The 1960 1/2 and 1961 beetles had these tail lamps.
but most have been changed to the later style as these are very hard to find...
even on a Car... they were only used in Australia & Italy..
Check the date stamp on the back of Your speedo..
that will tell You when it was made...
Hopefully it will be the original...
cheers
Lee

if its a '62 it should have a split heater outlet and seatbelt mounts built into the chassis.
