The Super Beetles steering box was'nt made as well as the torsion bar beetle's steering box...

I don't know what the problem is, but they wear out...
& getting a good used one may be difficult..

they sell heaps of Super beetle's steering boxes in the US
and they aren't cheap either...

Best of Luck

Lee

I have a 76 L bug sitting in my back yard. Body TOO far gone to fix up. Mecanical bits and pieces are ok(no motor) as far as I know. Guards and glass ok doors rat shit. bonnets were good but haven't looked at her for a while. So if you want something or anyone else does drop me a u2u and we can sort something out.

Where abouts are you??

You can get kits to repair them.
IF you know a really good machine shop they can do the work.

Around $450 is my guess.
Good second hand ones are like $250

I have some fair condition spares that are better suited for a rebuild.
V Force has access to the kits and a machinist

BTW
The 76L bug is either a 75L or a 76
76's were beam front end and different to supers
75L's were rack and pinion - again different to 71-74 supers.
Can yo define better what you have - i might be interested if its a 75L

any 71 - 74 superbug L or S box will fit (75 L have rack and pinion) but just be aware that the 71-mid 73 have a different drop arm but all u have to do is swap it over

i fitted the new box from my 71 sbug to my 74 Lbug all i had to do was swap the drop arm
the 74s have one like in barrys pic with the lock to lock adjusters on where as 71- 73 are like these old ones of mine dont
