Yeah thats cool how VW used it first, some people don't believe you when you tell them though.

Bosch actually bought that system (Patent rights) from Bendix from what I understand.
The system debut in 1958 (in Bendix design guise) on a DeSoto.

Dont forget they are talking ELECTRONIC fuel injection.......not FUEL INJECTION which had been around for donkeys years.

The original electronic Bendix (later Bosch) system is recognised as the first commercial electronically control fuel injection system. It ran an
analogue control system that calculated fueling requirements via engine speed and intake mainfold air pressure to determine the air mass.
Mechanical fuel injection systems had been around at least the early 20's on diesel engines with the Bosch developing those system and debuting the
commercial mechanical FI system in '55 on the 300SL. And of course aftermarket guys like Hillborn made Mechanical FI systems in the 60's.

but, all Bendix EFI (DeSoto) cars were recalled and fitted with dual four barrel carburetors.

So I should believe everything a company says? :P
But it is accepted the Bosch was the first system that gained popular acceptance amongst the manufacturers (and worked) The system is, as far as I am
aware, based on the Bendix system and they bought the patents that Bendix had as well.

The quote was to correct the statement that the first commercial MECHANICAL Bosch injection was in 1955 on the 300SL. 2 years earlier mechanical
injection was available on the Superior 600. It is true that Bosch had the first true ELECTRONIC Fuel Injection that was acceptable to the industry on
a commercial scale, although the Bendix sytem WAS available in the US of A in 1957 as an option on some Chrysler V8 guzzler from memory????.The best
part is the Bosch unit was stuck into a VW..now that is class !!!! Mechanical and Electronic are only in uppercase to highlight two completly
different systems.

i had a 67 merc with that set up i think had lots of problems with that car turned me off mercs forever

Story is wrong, EFI models are TLE. Picture seems to be TLE though.
Did Australia get early model EFI ones? I've only seen late model.

Australia didn’t get early EFI type 3s, the Yanks did, but there they were never called TLE. Only Europe had early TLEs.
