new generator

My generator is shot - only about 1.5v at 2000rpm

I've called around for a replacement (usual VW shops)- quotes from 150 to 200 for 2nd hand.
Then I call Baxters in Knoxfield Vic and they quote me $110 for a new gen and $50 for a new reg.

Has anyone bought from these guys?
They seem reputable because they supply to the truck industry.

yes, the pricing seems a bit cheap.... for the generator...
regulator seems a bit pricey

You should be able to pick up a used Generator easily enough....

there must be heaps of them about....

I find most companies not dealing with VW parts, usually,
don't even list parts for Beetles etc any more...

cars over 20 years old usually stop being listed...
no crossover charts etc... part number lists..

Unless this company imports these VW parts and sell them wholesale....

You should be able to see the brushes in the generator

see if You can push them down with paddle pop sticks
to see if the reading gets better...

brushes are mostly the cause of generator failure...
see if You can get a quote for brushes
or an overhaul..

or replace the brushes yourself

Or check out the $110 generator

Thanks guys,
I've tried all of that, (should be in "help" forum now)
Earthed DF to case, checked D+ to ground.
Paddle pop sticks? I just used fingers...still got them too..
but a good idea, next time.
Bushes are good (heaps left)
Did a continuity test across comutator contacts and got a connection to every one...I think the core has fused.
Sound right?

Looks like I'll get the new one.
