NRMA insurance
A couple of weeks back my father in law fell victim to a blind jeep driver who went through a red light. She still hasn’t seen him, there are no
skid marks on the road. If he had been a fraction of a second further into the intersection he would have been killed, but he escaped with only the
front being torn off his magna and a bruised shoulder where it slammed into the window.
The car (TR magna) was written off by the NRMA. It was insured for somewhere in the vicinity of market value at $5K… I wouldn’t buy it but someone
might have. But they gave him about $4600 and the plates off of it so that he could cash in the rego. To me this is bullshit. If it had happened a
month before they would have had to pay out $5K as rego was up. They are paying less than what THEY decided was the value of the car. Just wondering
if anyone knows if other insurance companies are like that.

I think insurance companies are like Banks...
No One likes any of them, as they do their best
to take as much money off You they can...
I suppose the NRMA says thats the market value of the Magna. [they can virtually say any thing]
I've found all Insurance companies now have these product disclosure booklets which You are supposed to read from cover to cover...
I've never read any of them....
they are full of the so called "fine print"
Gone are the days of a piece of paper with all the details on it....
Many companies I've dealt with offer You
agreed value or market value...
Well, as the market value can vary from one day to another...
Agreed is the only option....
I'm finding insurance companies only really want to insure people with no speeding fines
or accident records and above 25 years old and have held an Australian licence for over two years...
Well, those are the conditions on My insurance....
I used to be with the NRMA Insurance and green slip..
My Wife had a small accident,
and the cost of the green slip went up approx $30...
so I switched to another insurer. whose Green Slip doesn't ask about small accidents..
Ironically,
I have My beetle insured with NRMA - agreed value -
and I get the car back if its written off...
its much like shannons - car has to be locked up at night.
only so many kilometers a year... but inexpensive...

But if the NRMA started insuring the car years ago at $15000, reducing it year by year down to its current level of $5000, surely they are then saying
that this car is worth $5000 and are then obligated to PAY $5000. I cant help wondering how much they have billed the other drivers insurance company.
Maybe they are with NRMA too. I stopped using the NRMA years ago when they started trying to force people to use the cheapest dodgiest repairer. I had
heaps of trouble with them when my wife rear ended someone. A laydown mazaire that it was her fault... had hassles of getting it towed to the
repairer, threats of not covered by warranty, and in the end they paid for the repair minus the cost of one light. It apparently wasnt caused by the
accident despite all the bits of plastic still sitting in there.

Had a similar problem years ago so maybe this advice isn't worth two bob now. Involved in a colision, bloke rear ended me into the car in front, the
insurer wrote off the car at market value but there mv wouldn't go anywhere near getting me another car of the same make and model in the same
condition, argued with them and eventualy they gave in, gave me their mv pluss the wreck, ended up with a few $ left over after the car was repaired,
wasn't much good though, only lasted me another 9 years before I had to sell it. 14 year old renault 12's don't fetch much.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

I know for a new car, i'd be using suncorp.
I work at a prestige smash repair group. SO we see it from the other end. ALL insurance groups limit how much a repairer is allowed per hour, but I
know from our experience at work, that with Suncorp, there is far less hassel in the payouts and arguing for payments if the prices go over original
quotes. The others bulk even if u say...the quote of $1.00/screw was PER SCREW, not for ALL 15 screws...so difference is actually $15.00. We have
had to argue in some cases for $3.00. Its kinda crazy.
But when it comes to Suncorp, there is very little arguing, & payouts tend to be good if written off. We knwo how much the clients will get, because
we need to know what 'top quote price is' It may be that we only handle BMW and merc etc, so the clientele argue everything...but for the most part
Suncorp have simply paid higher, so no arguing is necessary.
It's funny though. Some insurance groups simply have no idea. You hand them a quote for $30k and they go..WHAT!. u then explain front end damage
for a brand new merc...& the head light costs $3K. :P

Yep NRMA robbers,young kid road of his car the other day.Insured for $6500 got paid 4500.They took out the rest of year insurances and somehow aloud
to take out rego money:o and fees.We were told you get it back at RTA after the pricks take it from you:puke.....How can they do this??????

Some - such as Shannons - have different terms etc. But if the car is not worth saving from a $ point of view, it's a 'write off'

Dont get NRMA insurance (IAG) mixed up with NRMA Member Services (Road Service), they split over 5 years ago, thats why members were either given
shares or cash.

I had my golf insured with NRMA until last year when they decided that mk2 golfs are only 1.6 litres when I corrected them they decided that they no
longer would insure me so shanons got my golf , my 2 beetles , my motorcycle ,my wifes falcon my house and its contents
fuckem!
P.S I sold my NRMA shares and bought a new garage
