can people give me their methods on how to fit a towbar on my piped cage

How is your cage attached to the car? If it is attached to the rear shock absorber towers, be careful as they are cast iron which can easily break
under the shock loads of a bouncing trailer.
Unless your cage is connected to the pan or rear torsion bar tubes you may not have enough strength for the pulling loads and unless it is
triangulated to more than thin bodywork, it will not be able to resist up and down loads as the tow bar bounces.
I recently took a tow bar off a 73 Beetle because it was attached at the rear to the bumper only. It was simply not strong enough for me to trust it.
The holes where it was attached to the thin bodywork were oval shaped, the others on the bumper attachments were OK.
Tow bars are a bit like seat belts. Over engineer the whole assembly.

the cage is attached to both the shock tower and the torsion tubes. its also attached to the engine horns. so fitting a towbar that can tow a 6x4 box
trailer shouldn't be a drama
having the tow bar attached to the old bumper bar only is a drama waiting to happen

This is like the one Terry is talking about (subibaja).Class 4 hitch.Obviously the tongue is not in when the picture was taken.I've towed a 6x4 box
trailer with a 360 kg go kart in it for 250km on the highway.Everything is still together.

Thats a pretty nice setup. Might have to consider a change over.
Personallythe only thing i have towed is a 6x4 with sides and a few bits and peices in it. Only a few km.
It came with the car so not sure how much towing the PO did. And i dont believe the cage is anchored enough to support towing much weight.

Thank you mackaymanx. I've always thought that the rear shocker towers are iron. I'ts good to know that they are steel.

I run a hayman reece too. Mine is a lot more complicated due to the V6.

I got bars going everywhere 
and the aluminium part of the cage bolts to the hayman reece part (on top) and then goes back to the shock towers.
