Bora - Oil Pressure Warning

Hi all, first post here and hoping for someone with a similar story! I have also posted at vwwatercooled.org to try and sort this out.

I just bought a 2001 V6 4Motion Bora for my wife and have had the STOP - Oil Pressure warning coming on every time we start the car. I know the previous owner quite well and he did tell me that this happened every few months but since getting the car home to Canberra, it has happened every time .

I drove the car for a week in Brisbane and it never happened, maybe atmospheric pressures being different in Canberra have something to do with it??

Drives us nuts, previous owner had had VW replace the Oil Pressure Sender replaced 3 times and the problem persists. I thought perhaps the dipstick was replaced at some stage so I added 1/2 a litre over full to check if it made a difference but to no avail.

The engine is being pressure tested in the morning, if all is ok I will give the car to a local VW specialist for him to remove the cluster and look for bad solder joints where the connector comes in.

Has anyone had this drama??

Thanks is advance, Scott.

does the engine look dirty inside the valve cover/ oil filler cap ?

if yes then it hasn't had enough oil changes, you may have some oil sludge issue.

Hi jakjones - The oil is very clean, it only just had it's 90k service. Also, inside the cover looks pretty clean too. I did note that the oil filler cap was quite wet yesterday which leads me to think oil pressure is ok at the top of the engine. Pressure test will tell for sure.
