911 engine in beetle

Hi has anyone fitted or knows of some photos of a porche 911 6cyl engine in a 1303 beetle. I would like to know how much room it takes up ie do you have to use the rear seat space

from what ive read they dont fit in with out serious body work. ie the rear apron would have to be extended by about half a foot.
you would be better off fitting a 914 motor or a similar 4 cylinder ie kombi as they fit in the body with out serious modification

Someone on here said a while back about Porsche motors - if they fit, they don't go; and if they go, they don't fit. :thumb

Do u just want a pic, or do u wish to investigate actually installing the engine?

Put a Subie in it. much better result for about half the $

there is a black one that was converted by the porsche factory i think, it was mid mounted and the body was elongated between the door and the rear guard. i saw it in volksworld years ago, i think it was called the nordstat beetle or similar. i may try to find it later.

'but my mate had one with a porsche engine in it..'

:vader

sorry

It is a rare conversion in my opinion. There are a lot of mods to be done. Not saying it cant be done but be prepared for a chassis up build.

Busses and type 3 have more room. Grey 57 has a 6 in his type 3 razor. There was a bus at dubs by the pub a few years ago, jamie olivers bus has one in it.

Wasn't Jamie Oliver's splitty powered by an upright converted and slightly trick type 4 from a 914, not a 911 six? :)

eeeeeeeeeeeexactly!

Well... to be politically correct, the 914 engine's had sodium-filled valves as standard and the 2L 914 engine had wierd heads... so they aren't quite a Kombi engine :dork:

ANywho... I best stop trying to stir trouble! :tu:

I thought Jamie Olivers Bus was a 2.7 six. 911 motor.
