This car is in as good a condition as you're likely to get anywhere, the motor rebuild was done at 54000K's an the car has 58043k's
I'm looking for a VW Beetle pref 74 on or an L or Superbug or a 76 but I'm not stuck on any as long as the condition is good and sound with no rust
and it hasn't been modded by Mr ferkin stupid.
.
This car has been gone over from front to back and top to bottom. If it was bent, busted or faulty it has been fixed mostly using OE parts.
Engine
Totally rebuilt to Mazda specs with new just about everything – housings – plates – seals – etc etc etc. All new Mazda parts used. The
rebuilt was done at 54,263klms by Tony Stacey at Mr Rotary ph (07) 3355 5669 if you want to check it out. There are no mods like "mild porting" or
shortcuts in the rebuild whatsoever. The water pump was replaced with new at the same time.(cost $6300.00 all up--yup THAT rebuild)
Fuel Consumption
12.5-13.5klms – 100 city and 10-11 – 100klms highway.
Induction
Stock with K&N filter.
ECU
Stock. Don’t let Mazda tell you that they can’t read an import ECU, the codes are different, they’re not. How do I know? Mr Rotary has the
stock (Aust) Mazda electronic tuning equipment and has no problem, the fault codes are exactly the same as Aust delivered. Neither has Ian Boettcher
Mazda Ipwich.so if you want to have Mazda do all your servicing for you it’s just routine stuff for them.
Exhaust
OE dump pipe and cat replaced with 2½” stainless steel dump pipe and separate 3” metalcat. The OE temp sensor and air return pipe are plumbed
back in per OE specs. Work done by Scotts Rods ph (07) 3812 0544. It goes into twin 2” Mazdaspeed mufflers. This is a great flowing system and
gives a good sound while being street legal. The dump and rear pipes are completely heat wrapped.
Gear Box
Stock OE 4 speed auto. For those who call these boxes ‘slushers’ I suggest you think again. The box has three systems:-
D = 4 speed + overdrive
S = 3 speed very quick changing
+ an over-ride button on the gear stick which puts the box into 3rd gear from any other gear and holds it
If you know how to use one of these boxes good results are a given. Both fuel economy on one hand and performance on the other. The box has been
fully serviced by Western Suburbs Automatics ph (07) 3277 1999.
Prop Shaft
Brand new fabricated by Driveline Services (the old one had frozen bearings through standing around too long). The shaft is also serviceable unlike
the Mazda original.
Driveshafts
Fully serviced by Driveline Services , stripped , hotwashed , tolerance checked , re-packed and re-booted.
Driveline Services Archerfield- Ph No (07) 3275 7600
Diff
Renewed with second hand, checked and serviced (open 4.1) (original had funny knock which was probably caused by the frozen bearings in the prop shaft
)… aaaarrrrggggh.
Suspension
Slightly lowered (20m), Mazdaspeed springs F & R, Mazdaspeed front struts with KYB rears. This set up gives a good firm ride without driving your
spine through the top of your skull if you go over a bump bigger than a flea turd and enough height to clear most speed bumps without leaving your cat
behind. Back end sorted and recambered from jap stupid squatting frog to to sensibly good by J Thomas & son, Ipswich (07) 3281 4044.
Wheels/Tyres
Stock BBS 15x6.5JJ with Falken Ziex 205x60x15’s with heaps of tread. I’ll measure the tread depth if you’re picky but they’ve only got about
7,000 on them. I’ve found this combo works really well on this car and is a very economical as the tyres only run out to $110 a corner fitted and
balanced. The wheels weigh 5.2 kilos and quite frankly to put say 17s on that will be in same type of weight range say 7 kilos is just far too
expensive for me ($200 each in Japan, $500 each here) … you all know the story.
Interior
Stock, tan leather seats/door trim in excellent condition.
Exterior
Bonnet bare metal re-spray not because of damage, it had got tatty and had been Jap-patch sprayed so I had it re-done. The rest of the paint is
original and in excellent all round condition. No rust anywhere in this entire vehicle.
Top
Tan fabric brand new fitted 3 weeks ago. Imported from the US (AA Best & Company). This top is stayfast fabric and about two shades more tan than it
looks in the pics. The fabric is the same quality (Sonndecke) that is used by BMW/Merc. It was fitted by A Prestige Trimming Co ph (07) 3208
9389.
ICE
Still stock. I have made up a replacement plug and play cartridge to replace the OE unit (see pics). This comprises Autometer oil pressure, oil
temperature and volts gauges and a Clarion DB 566 USB unit. This has not yet been fitted so if anybody is interested in buying the car we can talk
about this then.
Summary
Heaps of additional remedial OE bits have been replaced … you know the stuff … little bits of plastic trim etc etc. Have receipts for everything
but basically with the exception of the mild exhaust and suspension improvements this car is absolutely stock running beautifully as Mazda intended
and used as a daily. Current mileage 58,043.
