2L air engine temperture?
Is it normal for one side [left] of a 2L aircooled engine to run noticeably hotter than the other side? This includes the seperated exhaust systems[it sitting in a buggy]

When this happened to me it turned out to be a big vacuum leak on that side causing it to run lean.

Could also be that one side has shit compression... caused by bad ring/s, cracked head, burned valve/s... tho I would read the plugs first to
ascertain if one side is running richer than the other... in either situation (mixture or compression related), the car would run rough and/or lack
power.
One thing you should remem,ber is it is better to run slightly (only slightly mind) overrich, than to run slightly (or more than slightly) lean on
either or both sides.

Forget the lean/rich for now. More likely that one side isn't 'working' due to vacuum leak which means the mixture isn't firing in the cylinder

on type 4s doesnt the air for the left bank go thro the oil cooler b4 the cylinders?
does ur motor run fine?
coz air leaks, bad mixture or poor compression all are fairly noticable when they happen

No there is a splitter inside the front half of the fan housing that directs some air to the cooler and the rest to the cyls,it is connected to the
t/stat rod and when cold all the air goes to the cyls, when hot as above:beer

Thanks all. A lot to investigate. I hope there is enough time over x-mas. The strange thing is that if anything, the cooler site runs lean [plugs,and has a slight tendency to miss fire.]

I finaly worked out that both sides where leaking air through some leaking caps over suction pipes associated with the dismantled central idling
system. Put propper caps on and it runs very well. Thanks all.
