EJ and T3 - Starter Motor Question
What starter motor to use on a T3 EJ22 conversion? - Will the VW one do the job and wake up the ECU?

one I used to work on had a hi-torque starter. worked very well.
I dont think it cranked it any quicker, but they sound a lot stronger!

I'm using a bog stock 1800 starter motor. the only thing i added was an extra earth strap from the negative battery pole to one of the starter
mounting bolts. the starter works alittle harder when the engine is warm, but it always starts.

If you have an auto unit as I think you do that will work the best

thanks, getting there on the auto front, not 100% confident and it seems a bit 'try it and see'. But sure I'll get there.

For three years I used the original auto starter in my '82 T3 and it always cranked the EJ22 slowly and unconvincingly (even with a relay to power
it). I put in a geared starter two months ago and it is SO much better/faster - and sounds the way it should.
