Insurance

Hi

I dont know if anyone else has tried to take out insurance with Shannon's but I am quite annoyed that there ad states that they are for people who are enthusiasts. I rang up for insurance but as I am under 25 I am not able to take out insurance. I did not know that only when you are over 25 that, that is when you become a car enthusiast .
Has anyone else been angred by this?

Well maybe it is a new policy because I have a perfect driving record.

insurance is all based in figures. this is not personal, the stats just favour the insurance companies more once you reach a certain age. once the percentage points are in their favour they will sign you straight up. all insurance is just legislated gambling. YOU are betting (premium)you will have an accident/fire/theft THEY are betting (claim) you will not.

I,m with Shannons for both my cars and my house contents and my portable lap top
i don,t have a problem with them ,i find them to be the most competive with price than any other insurance company that i have gone thru and when i was 24 i got insurance thru them for my rambler hornet with 308
so i think it might be more than just your age that they have refused you
:) :P
I guess all you can do is try just try another company
my partner is 29 and recently had trouble insuring his car with shannons but he has lost his licence twice

Below is from Shannon's Web Site.

>Does your car/bike qualify for an online estimate?
We can provide you with a quote on-line if:
It is in good repair (except for Laid Up cover only)
It is for private use
You are the registered owner of the car/bike
All drivers/riders are aged 25 years or over
Sorry, we do not offer insurance if:

Your car/bike is used primarily for business use, or
Your car/bike has not been insured in the last 30 days, or
Any of the drivers/riders have lost their licence in the last 5 years, or
Any of the drivers/riders made more than 2 motor claims in the last 5 years or
Any of the drivers/riders have had more than 3 traffic infringements &/or offences (excluding parking fines) in the last 5 years
You are currently bankrupt or in receivership.
If you do not meet these criteria, please call us on 13 46 46 as we may still be able to help you.

well I assure you that I have not lost my licence or had any accidents, I think it may be a new policy that they do not comprehensively insure under 25's and maybe it was a while ago that you insured yours when u were under 25.

go with GIO. their vintage/veteran car policy is cheap! and you can be young and not have the car garaged

My bf has had his Bug insured with Shannons for a few years, he only just turned 25 this year. Sure it was a little bit more than what I pay but it was with them.

I've got my cars insured with Shannons, and they have been nothing short of awesome. :tu:

According to the detail on their website it looks like they will insure noone! I tried to do my insurance online but it got rejected as I have 18 inch wheels on my bug (I am well over 25 .... unfortunatly!!! and have a dead clean record) but as soon as I phoned them up I had no drama. If you have something that is a little bit different or doesn't fit into a conventional box, they prefer to talk to you. I insure my oval beetle, my 1974 beetle, my new beetle cabrio and my brand new Polo GTI with Shannons and am very happy with them. Just hoping that I will never have to use them !

I have had my insurance with my beetle with them since i was 23 (with a big list of mods and agreed value which is about to be bumped up again soon). I tried when i was 18, but was told nobody under 21. How old are you?

i know what you mean, i have had trouble with them with my varying cars, they wouldnt touch me in the kombi, and they quoted soemthign huge with my new car and wouldnt offer me the same agreed value that they had offered the previous owner of the car :duh Im going to agree with wild1, i have had all of my cars insured with GIO, my kombi when i was 18 with major modifications, my Type 3 which classed as vintage/vet (comprehensive insurance for about the same cost as 3rd party, very cool!) and now my amazon they agreed on a value over the phone which was the value that the previous owner had it insured with with shannons, $12,000 and as a 21 year old it is costing me less then $300 a year for Vintage/Vet which is full comprehansive, unlimited kms with salvage rights. cant complain about that!

Shannons offer multi policy discounts. Just got an $1100 quote for my 99 Caravelle, which seemed a bit steep to me. I'm old, no points and no accidents. Not tried others (yet). But even so, not sure their 'new car' claims ring true.

just tried AAMI - same money, 2 grand less value and no choice of repairer - I stand corrected.

I believe all the insurance companies are being taught by the same people...
If You have an accident or been booked a few times they don't really want to touch You...
They all want people who are NOT going to claim...

I have My Beetle insured with NRMA VVClassic car insurance which seemed very close to Shannons quote...
I may check out shannons next year.
Because i had My beetle insured with NRMA, the green slip was much cheaper.. also with NRMA...

Most standard insurance companies don't want under 25 year olds at all..... may go to 35 soon..??

cheers

Lee
