1800/ 2litre compatability
Does anyone know if I can put the top end of a 2 litre together with an 1800 bottom end together and is an auto 1800 able to be mated up to a manual
(Type 3 IRS) gearbox.

Not 100% sure but I know you can drop in a 2L bottom end into a 1.8 case, and use the 1.8 cam, lifters etc etc.
I am using an 1800 case with a 2L crank and rods, with the 1800 cam reground and 2L heads (with 1800 valves installed) for my type IV rebuild (to go
into my 63 bug).
Bit confusing!!

Yes all Type 4 engines use the same case, so all the parts are interchangeable.
1800 engines use 93mm cylinders, while 2000cc engines use 94mm, so there's not much difference there. The 2-litre cylinders will slide right into
your 1800 case.
The 2-litre crank has 5mm more stroke than the 1800, thanks to having offset-ground rod journals, but it will work perfectly in an 1800 case. You will
have to use 2-litre rods of course.

RE: the gearbox compatibility
You will obviously need a manual 1800 flywheel for your type 4 engine. The auto set-up on the engine won't work. Use the 1800 clutch and pressure
plate. They will work with the type 3 throw-out bearing and starter.
The prob is the input shaft. The type 4 ones are longer. So you either need to put the longer type 4 input shaft in the type 3 gearbox, or put a bush
in the type 4 flywheel for the shorter shaft
