L Bug speedo

My speedo works but my oddmeter stopped.I pulled it out today and dismantled it. I found that the small plastic gear on the end of the number spool has cracked and is slipping.Does anyone know if you can get this part or a kit. It is a VDO kph in a 74 L Bug.

Gary,

The broken plastic drive gear is a common problem with later speedos - the earlier ones all have a brass gear there.

It can be rebuilt with a brass gear by any competent speedo repair place, and I'm sure someone here will tell you where it can be done (I know a few places in the US, but not here in Aus).

There was a bloke "Phat73" - i think on STF. He would rebuild them. More to the point he did screen printing and the different faces he could put on a speedo were amazing. White background was good, so was carbon fibre effect looked great
If you wanted i could find his address

L Bug speedo

That sounds great, But I'm pretty happy with the original for the moment I just want to get a cog if I can. I ended up super glueing it on to get it going for now. the only problem is the crack put the gears out of alignment and I had to trim them up with a stanley knife a bit to get it to work. It's going ok at the moment but I don't know for how long?

L Bug speedo

Thanks fellas I'll try the Sydney number when I finish my 12 hour night shift round. Living in the far NW of Tassie I find we have no local dealers so every thing has to be ordered in most fo the time and once you have ordered it your usually stuck with it. Another problem is I use the Bug every day for for every thing so I can't just pull it out and send it away to be repaired. THe law might not take too kindly to me driving arround with a hole in my dash and estimating my speed.I'll fill ya in later if I have any luck.
