My company Shannons offers 'laid up' cover that also covers transport fo repair or restoration but only for unrego cars and to existing clients. In these days of 'instant' credit or EFTPOS transactions, it's easy (and expected) to pay immediatley for a policy, not just cover note..

i got a cover note from shannons to drive my 64 volvo on an unregestered vehicle permit from sydney to armidale (550km) in 2005. (i can't remember if it had "laid up" insurance with them at the time though). all i needed was to e.mail them pics proving the condition of the car at the time.
