It should be between 24 and 28 inches from the ground to the curve in the mudguard lower lip on the back. My 68 is at 26inches but my 72 needs
lowering at 28.

Thanks Yogie,
mate what I'm actualy looking for is the wheel centre to the middle of the bottom of the guard manufactured stock hight/distance --- this
measurement ignores tyre sizes which can make a huge difference.

Hey VWCOOL,
At the risk of appearing ungratefull don't be telling me to "pull my head in" I asked a simple question I did'nt want or need a "free bump"-- or
any half smart half assed comments , just an answer if anyone had it, and as for being aggressive ---you can't work out why ?
Jeeeeezzzz,
Al.

Hi vw54,
thanks for that aaaaahhhh the reason ---I've just spent an inordinate- to my way of thinking-( please see post "shimming front beam-- now with
invoices" same author) amount of money getting the steering sorted on my newly aquired bug , my chief problem in doing some of this work myself was
that the settings were so far from anything standard (the car had been lowered and the wheel shims played with) that I was at a loss to know how to
proceed for fear of making things worse. Exacerbating the problem was that I had no factory ride hieght setting to be able to work out what the each
side shim count should be to correct the current cambers, which were running at 2 and 2.5 degrees negative--front, for the current ride hieght.
The car now is steering at 98%+ and I am reasoably confident that once its settled down a tyre change is all it may need to put it at 100% though I
doubt even this will be neccessary.
The greatest fix for the steering was when the ass end was lifted to ride at the same hieghtas the front instead of 200mm lower--- on the second
attempt at fixin the steerings eratic desire to go for a play in the scrub.
So there you have it and thanks to to you I now know what factory is-- what I currently have have-- 330mm front and rear with factory cambers and
settings so I can now work out what will work should the damn thing not settle down--BEFORE- I have to spend any more dosh and will in that event
probably be able to tackle it myself.
Cheers and thanks,
:beer
