hiGHER~

hEY mate,
my 1st car was a 67 beetle back in the day~ when i got her,

It had been jacked in the back as it had a rear fibreglass bumper on it & used to scrape the rear wheels sagged in(Positive Camber),like when you jack the rear off the ground or when it is on a hoist.

I took it back to original by reajusting the rear torsion bars, I had fats on the back & it just looked scarey!!
don't know if this is any help but they can def be taken upwards~ cheers!

Sime~

A set of coil over shock absorbers front and rear will do it cheaply, infinitely adjustably and quickly. Make sure that the shockers are not stiffer than standard.

If you fit pump up shockers you will increase the ride height but you will be riding on the shockers and the ride will be very strange and stiff.

Alternatively fit adjusters to the front end, which is expensive and learn to adjust the rear end, which is a really irritating job, but you might as well learn how to do it.

have you looked at adjusters for the front beam ?? you simply cut out a section in the top and bottom beam and weld a set or adjusters in ,,, they work by turning the springs inside the beam by means of a nut which is manually would up and down ... that would be my first move ( its not to hard and was one of the first mods i made to my baja.....

as for the 181 front end ----- they are the ducks nuts in regards to offroad front end AND HEIGHT.. standard hieght on a 181 front end is the same as a standard ball joint wound up to teh max with adjusteres,, this means that it will also keep the front suspension nice and soft unlike adjusteres the higher you go the harder teh front gets..

181 front end install -- all you need is the arms and spindles in order to instal them you will need to either manufacture 2 plate ( one for each side) in order to addempt them and mount the brake caliper..

why doesnt everyone run 181 front ends ???? they are Rare and expensive,, your best bet would be tryign to import one from america... i recently recieved my 181 front end from virginia USA after some 8 months of tryign to track on down ( i finally convinced a fella to sell me his from his runnign thing)

just a lil bit of info hope it helps you out :)

I've heard that the big collars that the springs sit on can be machined off and moved to where you want them but don't know how this would affect other parts such as shocks:?:

if you done that wouldnt your shocks be more prone to bottoming out thus shortening the life dramatically of them

if you lower them to far they will hit the bump stops also you can get better bump stops to help this
but if you raise them then you will have no prob
