How much does your VW weigh?
Out of interest (still deciding on which VW to use for new project), what do VW's weigh?
Type 3 squareback, notch, fastback, beetle, kombi, golf etc??
C'mon get them on the scales!

If anything, beetles and type 3's would be far less lighter than their modern equivelants. A type 3 notch and fastback are about the same in weight
tipping the scales in at 920kgs with the squareback at 1025kg (early models from factory handbook). By comparison my fiance's 1.6litre 1996 Ford
Laser weighs over 1200kg (Auto & Air-Con make up bulk of extra weight in modern cars). My 1964 XM Falcon weighed less than her laser! A HQ Holden
Monaro with a V8 weighs less than a Mitsubishi Magna. I am 30 years old and weigh 65 kilos which is the equivelant to a modern day 10 year old fat

the big difference is modern day cars is all that NVH stuff that goes into a car. If you took that out of your naughties model car it probably be a
loud as a HQ Monaro or early beetle. For interest sake, my 58 beetle weighs approx. 770kg including driver and my other car a Hyundai (which is
roughly of similar dimensions) tips the scales at 1050kg including driver.

My 55 beetle weighs 650kg.Thats with me in it,spare wheel,trolley jack,tools and a 1600 head that was on the floor at the time.All that said my car
does not have heater boxes,a radio,carpet,fuel gauge etc.
This is at local tip weighbridge so not too sure on how acurate this is.

my race prepped oval was 810kg (on corner scales) and the 1960 ghia was 860kg (on a public weighbridge)

So a fasty & notch = 950kgs + extra 75kg for squareback
Beetle from 650kg upwards, that is prettyl light!

Use a beetle, lightest and you can fill the space where the fuel tank was to get a decent sized battery array and weight distribution with rear drive
only traction motors.

Yeah weight does make the beetle seem good (still don't know what a golf weighs), but concerned about how much room is there for batteries,,
Sounds like you have done this before Sinecure, how many batteries can you cram into that fuel tank space?

I weighed the TAT tubo today for my own curiosity at the local tip scales. 760kg without me, no back seat and a plastic race seat in place of the
original. Fuel was not far off the reserve line.

It's not about speed that they are referred to as sport models. It just so much darned easier to fit a set of golf clubs in a ghia than a
beetle.
