How to remove front seats in a beetle?
I am trying to remove my front seats so I can clean the tracks and regrease them
At the moment it is very difficult to adjust the seats cause of the dirt and old grease build up.
I used to be able to remove them but I forgot, and can't get them out now! From my fague memory, there was a clip somewhere?? But I cant find it!
Any advice would be appreciated. Also what's the best grease to use?
Oh these are the highback seats in a 1500 beetle.
Thanks
Rob

there should be a spring under the seat
unclip the spring....easiest when the seat is forward
pull up and hold up the adjusting lever and pull the seat all the way forward off the track
might need to wiggle a little bit to move the seat
not sure what grease to use.....someone else might know on here

On the older seats there's a bolt about two thirds of the way back on the rail that acts as a stop which also prevents the seats being" run of the
rails" as it were if yours has em you'll need to back them off --anticlockwise looking down on em, you should be able to see a bolt head if you
look straight down the side of the seat--if its there of course,
Cheers ,
Al.
I'm just useing a light smear of Castrol high temp bearing grease on mine --cause I had some on the shelf--:beer

Don't use too much grease, the dust sticks to it and clags up the rails making them worse. Clean the rail and slide with a solvent like kerosine or
wax/ grease remover. Then a smear of dry lube like used on door catches. It comes in a crayon like stick and is not wet.

Thanks for the help everyone.
I ended up finding the spring on the rails near the slots which lock the seat position.
I cleaned it up with kero, but I used some molly grease. I was using it sparingly, but I will try some of the dry lube next time for the drivers
side.
What is the name of some of the dry lube?
